Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). Is WotC SELLING D&D? An article that came out this morning has many people suggesting that, but is it accurate?

What's the difference?

No sell means Hasbro keeps fucking the corpse

A sell means Tencent keeps fucking the corpse

Unless someone honestly believes Tencent would be a better steward of D&D? Or that Hasbro will EVER become a good steward?

Well, my thought is that Larian Studios would actually be the steward, and that is most definitely not better.

Thor's Nads

This would explain why Hasbro gutted Wizards of the Coast during the last round of layoffs.

They don't NEED them anymore if they're getting sold.

The difference is that Tencent is NOT INTERESTED in buying all of D&D. The original article in the original chinese seems pretty clearly to be saying it wants only the rights to all the video games.

Except, if you watched my video you'd know TENCENT DOES NOT WANT TO BUY ALL OF D&D.

Again, except that according to my video, which is based on the ORIGINAL Chinese source, Tencent has NO INTEREST in buying all of D&D, they just want to negotiate for exclusive video game rights.

Also, while I agree that layoffs can be a potential sign of selling off, in this case it is more likely to be because of WotC's/Cynthia Williams' already clearly-stated intention to move away from book publishing and into the VTT as the central focus of the "D&D experience".

It's incredible how many people feel entitled to comment on my video without having actually watched it.

I watched it. And you may be right. But hey, it's a Wednesday and this is a fun topic to spread rampant rumors and speculate about.  ;D

Well, I don't watch video blogs, seems I'm not the only one. But I'm reading posts on the topic online.

Yep.  Didnt watch (and don't watch) RpgPundits videos but I saw this on Dungeon Craft and I find him pretty reliable on the information he provides.

YES, it makes no difference to my point.

So here's an idea I want to float.

What if Hasbro knows the VTT is failing and they are trying to manage the losses before they become so public as to turn them inside-out?  Possibly, Tencent sees D&D as an IP they can then license out to both in house developers and to other publishers like Mongoose or Asmodee?

Terrible idea, overwhelming majority of ttrpg players can't pass Voight-Kampff test.

Okay, I need a bagillion dollars right quick so I can swoop in and buy D&D.  I guess it's time to put Galaxies In Shadow up for sale on Amazon.  :D

Tencent wants it by way of Larian.

Larian originally wanted it, but couldn't afford it. They're the ones that tipped off Tencent to it..

Tencent has a 30% stake in Larian... If Tencent buys it, they're buying all of it, not just the videogames and they're going to give it to Larian.

And if Larian becomes the owners of the D&D intellectual Property by way of Daddy Tencent?

D&D has a much bigger chance of being saved.
1. Some of you culture warriors are so committed to the bit you'll throw out any nuance or common sense in fear it's 'giving in' to the other side.

2. I'm a married homeowner with a career and a child. I won life. You can't insult me.

3. I work in a Prison, your tough guy act is boring.
