WOTC is officially recognizing the word "typal."

Mark Rosewater:
"Multiple consultants recommended we stop using the language, so we decided to change it. We picked a word that was similar (same number of syllables), so we can swap it in the same places we were using "tribal" Typal, while an uncommon word, is an actual word meaning "relating to a type". We originally used as a placeholder, but grew to like it."

On the one hand I agree with you, but when D&D does well the rest of the industry does as well. Maybe that isn't true anymore because 5e managed to suck all the oxygen out of the room for non D&D games. Remember when there was entire shelves full of GURPS, World of Darkness, Deadlands, and so on? Now it is all D&D and D&D variants at my local gamestore.

I don't know, I'd call it a self inflicted wound.  Smaller publishers found there was more money in direct sales and kickstarters and ditched the distribution and store system that had always discriminated against them and gave every advantage to D&D and WotC.  On the one hand I can't blame the publishers but as a retailer who's been trying to support GURPS and Palladium and BRP and so forth, I've found it very frustrating to not be able to get customers products they want to buy because the publisher isn't interested in brick and mortar rpg sales anymore.

Also, "Typal" is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.  It's assigning all those poor misunderstood Orcs and Hobgoblins to a single type.  Which is, of course, no less offensive and less useful than tribal.  It's like saying "you know, those people like that" when talking about African Americans because, you don't want to say "nigger" even though you're still a bigot.

They're actually managing to be more racist than they previously were.

People really, really need to read Ray Bradbury's "Referant".  We desperately need to stop getting shaped by labels.

Well, let's say you're right and the industry does suffer for a while, what would be the end result of that?

Probably another game would take the spot as number one

5e culture would vanish

Most of the sparkletrolls would go away to ruin the next popular thing

The hobby would be a much better place

After a short time we would rebuild without the parasites.

I take great offense to the word: "Barbarian".  It hurts my ethnic origin.  The only way WotC will ever get the imaginary money I will not spend on WotC products because I'm a leftist and have no money, is if the Barbarian is renamed to Drag Queen.  I want Barbarian Rage replaced with "You Go Girl" and I want to give my Drag Queen the ability to convert the children of my opponents to my cause so I do not have to hurt the precious little spinchte... I mean angels, yes angels.
