This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Will we get another Wheel of Time RPG now?

I just hope that if they do a new RPG it's not D&D but I'm not holding my breath.  I suppose you could use Sorcery Points and allow people to draw them in but I'd rather just go Fate Accelerated since that version of the Dresden Files simulates WoT style magic pretty well.

While it might very well simulate WoT magic well, I'll take a hard pass on Wheel of Fate.

Any particular reason?  What system would you prefer for WoT?

I'm generally not a fan of the system, so I prefer to detour from using it whenever possible.

I'd consider using a SIEGE Engine or AGE system for it. Cypher is an interesting possibility as well. BRP might be fairly decent. And here's an odd thought I had, a CoD system using something similar to Exalted Charms for magic.

I can think of a lot of things I'd rather use than Fate.

I too had considered the AGE system.  I think the AGE system could easily do WoT and do it justice, if done properly.

This is actually a homebrew d100 system.  But thanks!  Always happy to have another ruleset.

What are Cypher, SIEGE, BRP, and AGE?  There's so many systems...

It seems I accidentally linked the wrong WoT homebrew.  That is indeed the D100 homebrew I saw previously.  Here is the VERY impressive one done using D&D 5e: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3fjlzi3u6oaWVJKbUFybnBCbk0/view?resourcekey=0-9mqJ9SAh9P1Y9u_vUWmRjg

Wow!  Oh my goodness.  Thanks for that!

Just to let people know, the D20 book was actually one of the best gaming books to come out of the OGL, not as good as the Conan ones, but close.

It plays rather well at the table, and the book itself is gorgeous, with some of the best art from that period. As a bonus, it's very faithful to the books, so you won't get the absolute garbage that is the tv show version of the lore/characters/world.

Please note that I say all this as a very mild fan of the books. Jordan suffers from verborrhea to the nth degree, his motto might as well be "why use 7 words when you can use 936?".

Well, part of the problem is it was originally planned as like a 6 book set, but once they started selling like hotcakes, Jordan was told to draw out the story. You can literally feel a moment in Book 3 when everything slows the fuck down.

And Nynaeve pulls on her braid. A lot. Like, how is there not a geyser of blood coming from her head, a lot.

The old d20 book was actually really nice. But convincing people to play male spell-casters, knowing full well they'd go batshit insane eventually, made it a pretty hard sell.

Really?  I actually had to tell players I wasn't allowing it the two times I ran the game.  "Rand al-Thor is a bitch!  I'm the real Dragon!"

Yeah, immense power with accompanying madness is a lure to a great many players (like anyone that plays a psyker in a WH40K game).

It was probably a little skewed because one game was at my university gaming club so "campaigns" were generally shorter there and by the fact that the other game was with my home group and they're all old hands with Rifts so used to playing Crazies and Juicers.

That seems kinda good idea, considering wonky nature of One Power on book level.

That would be less of a problem, if he put proper amount of things into those books. Like whole Rand storyline is what 3 years? That's the same problem as ASOIAF - books took half a years, while story beg you to make your characters older, and give them time to solidly grow, and politics to unfold better. Alas I think it's relatively common problem. Give me a saga that truly spans over decade.
