This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Will we get another Wheel of Time RPG now?

Do you think we will get another Wheel of Time RPG now that we have the Amazon show and such? The last one we had was way back in 2001 and 2002.

I'd really love to see this property get another TTRPG.

Well, due to popularity of game system, it'd either go the 5e route or a company like Free League (with their own system) might get it. Personally, I hope not 5e.

Wrath of God

I'd go with PBTA because it's seems to be a setting that would go better with moves than skills.
Like "tug-your-braid", "fold-arms-under-bosom", "why-can't-I-understand-girls-like-my-friends" and finally "don't-balefire-you-will-break-universe" and "BALEFIRE"
"Never compromise. Not even in the face of Armageddon."

If it had come out a few years ago after Sanderson finished the book series then I would have been on board with it but a WoT rpg today would just be a woke mess, especially if the publishers choose to incorporate anything from the tv show.

This is a setting that would work best with a d100 system like Mythras.

Iron_Rain

After seeing episode 8 of season 1, I hope to god the TV show just dies. What a complete cluster fuck of an episode.

I would not buy it if it was made for D&D 5E, nor if it was based on the TV show that shares the name of the books.

I am currently on a moratorium from making any purchases of 5E based products. This was sadly even to include the new Talislanta until they threw out there that it will be dual-statted. I'm still wary of it.

Are the books any good? The show isn't great, although it does have its moments... Everything is derivative and formulaic, the plot seems to be stretched too thin, like butter scraped over too much bread. ...

Luciano Pavarotti playing the main villain was a nice twist.

I have friends that really liked the books (but only one that stuck through all 14 of them). I tried reading one of them and found them unnecessarily boring with way too much fluff text (the author goes into way too much detail on what seemed like trivial stuff to me, but some people love the setting wank). So maybe give one book a try, but don't purchase the whole series outright until you've sampled it to see if you like it.

I haven't read it and don't intend to because I read this scathing review from 1999: https://wotiscrap.tripod.com/

I remember trying to read it years ago and giving up... the series make me think I gave up for a reason.

Well, I still have a lot of Lovecrat and Lieber to get to... probably will leave it for another time.

Ha!  I'd love to read what his take is on Game of Thrones now that it'll never finish and we know how shitty the ending is based on the show.

That being said while I do like Wheel of Time and actually ran a few sessions of the RPG back in the day I wouldn't recommend it if you weren't entertained by the show.  Those who say that is formulaic and bloated are not wrong -- and remember that's coming from a fan.

Not really, because even if few points match, whole dynamics of the story will be/would be very different.
And for instance we know D&D knew nothing about WW plot-thread.

Nevertheless I'd argue even unfinished ASOIAF is like 10 times more efficient in storytelling compared to TWoT.

Wow.  Nope.  No one can possibly convince me that GoT is better than WoT at this point.  Plus GoT will NEVER be finished.

Unfinished ASOIAF is still better than WOT :P

Whatever floats your boat I guess.

I just hope that if they do a new RPG it's not D&D but I'm not holding my breath.  I suppose you could use Sorcery Points and allow people to draw them in but I'd rather just go Fate Accelerated since that version of the Dresden Files simulates WoT style magic pretty well.
