This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

In the US, D&D is distributed far and wide, in every mall.
In Europe, D&D is a small niche game (Cthulhu is bigger here in Germany for Example).

In the US, you don´t have a good beginners set anymore (one is onthe way)
In Europe, we have this:  Why can´t we bring it together? Why no D&D Boardgame in the Americas? Why no good Euro-NativeLanguage versions with a big distributor?

That is much more like Heroquest than an actual D&D Basic sort of game. Really the only thing it has in common with D&D is the name and the background, the rule mechanics are completely different. It's not what I'ld call a begineers set.

It is however not bad for boards and plastic miniatures, especially since it is currently heavily discounted. £12.99 (for the main set) £5.99 (for an expansions *SOLD OUT LOCALLY*) in discount bookstores "When it's gone, it's gone".

But how many Europeans came to Roleplaying through HeroQuest?
Legions and myriads more than through some mystical redbox that nobody here has ever seen.
BTW all the characteristic stuff is in it. The young ones will know what a cleric can and should do and so on. Thus they will have a much eaysier time coping with the "1000 pages of powergaming". They allready know what they can do, and what they are supposed to do. Don´t underestimate ten year olds.

Especially with the D&D Brand

Ah but as you've pointed out D&D is distributed far and wide in the US. In the UK it isn't so it needs some exposure to fill the gap in toy shops, since book shops generally don't carry D&D. In the US you can get exposed to the actual D&D game.

Exactly!
So why don´t we bring the two models together?
Isn´t that quite a smart move?
Especially with the Minis!
The Kids would love it!

Isn't that what the D&D Basic Set was (is / will be)? You could pick that up over here as well, and it had D&D Miniatures in it.
