This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Why is your favourite game system better than Unisystem?

Other than that, I don't have a problem with it.

Yes, but they also have far less linkage to Alyson Hannigan.  To say nothing of Charisma Carpenter or Eliza Dushku.  Again, Unisystem wins.
I have a theory, it could be witches, some evil witches!
Which is ridiculous \'cause witches they were persecuted Wicca good and love the earth and women power and I'll be over here.

If you think Charisma gets you points, you obviously haven't counted her ribs lately!  Chicks that need to eat a cheeseburger don't score you points.  :p

Her recent appearances on Veronica Mars would tend to argue otherwise.

Pooka Edit: Added Sblock just to be work safe - though in most places this should be safe.

Okay, so someone did give her a cheeseburger.  :p

Still doesn't change the fact that the rules of Unisystem are a gateway drug to goat molesting.

You say that like it's a bad thing.  You've really never kissed an animal until you've kissed one with a beard.

This Unisystem...
What is it good at?
What does it do that other systems don't?

Bagpuss

L5R 3rd Edition is better than UniSystem because

It uses more dice, we like dice.

It has Samurai.

It has a crazy roll and keep exploding d10 mechanic that gives even a math professor a headache trying to calculate the probabilities.

It has Samurai.

Nice full colour rule book with pretty pictures that aren't of SMG.

It has Samurai with fucking katanas man!

It has an initiative system.

It has Samurai, I mentioned the katanas right?

What Unisystem does well is fade into the background.  You tend not to think in terms of rules, but in characters.  IME anyway.  There's really nothing revolutionary about the system, except perhaps that they manage to have a single die resolution and success levels.  It's a direct, straightfowards system that lets you easily tailor the game to the feel you want.  They tend toward horror games, but plan to release both a Unisystem version of Conspiracy X (X filesish game) and Beyond Himan for supers sometime soon.  They also have some really good licenses in Buffy, Angel, and Army of Darkness.  The books are well made and well written.

Shame on them Conspiracy X's original system is cool, suits the setting and is even less intrusive than the Unisystem. I mean it's got a psionics system that uses Zener cards, so if you actually have ESP you will do better, does Unisystem have that? No.

Ooo!  I can see Maddman staggering back from that one!  A hit, a most palpable hit!  :D

So, it is good at skipping the boring parts?

If you consider the rules to be the boring parts, then yes. If you live to play because of the rules, then no.

We had the best session yet last night. In the approximate 4 hours we played, I'm guessing there were only 10 or so dice rolls. I don't think Maddman made only 1 roll all night. He damn near killed another character with it, but it was only one roll.

The rules pretty much disappear during game play. It's really nice. If you enjoy role-playing more than worrying about the rules, Unisystem is what you need. Even when the rules do come into play, they are very streamlined and simple. If you are at all familiar with the rules for Cyberpunk, Unisystem will be a no-brainer for you.
