This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Why [game x] rocks

D&D rocks, because it grabs the beating heart of fairy-tale, fantasy heroism and does its level best to shove it straight into your chest and get it beating there.

"There is a dungeon ... a cold, dark place made of twisted stone whose original purpose was probably to imprison and torture people.  Monsters live there.  At the very bottom, on top of a pile of ill-gotten gold, is a dragon.  A dragon, motherfucker.  It eats guys like you.  You are wearing glinting armor, and carrying a sword."

"If all that doesn't make you a hero then there's nothing more we can do for you."

Qin rocks. I ran it for the first time last night, and it was perfect for capturing the essence of Wuxia. Duels between martial artists, people using Kung-fu not just for combat but to access deep knowledge and affect the will of others, a system that rewards risk and liberal use of combat maneuvres, etc etc.

Of course, my particular game also rocked. I got to be Cao Cao. :D

My wallet weeps....

Yes. You do need this game!

Come on guys, my thread about the industry being screwed gets tons of replies and a thread about the love only 18?  Try harder people, if you post here odds are you love games, tell us about some of them.

I really think I do.  Once the funds are freed up, it's COLD SPACE time.

I will give COLD SPACE a pre-experience "it rocks" simply because its creator is truly a "genuine guy" (as my girlfriend's father likes to say).

(EDIT: spelling)
For fuck\'s sake, these are games, people.

And no one gives a fuck about your ignore list.

Castle Falkenstein rocks because it throws you into a world defined as much by the charming, potent, archaic nature of its moral and philosophical outlook as by the charming, potent, archaic nature of its many details.

When you climb on board a gigantic steam train, the ancient ur-beast of transport that shambled and screamed and spewed smoke and burning embers across the country-sides of Europe, you know that you are (if only in imagination) in a far, foreign country of the past.

Once you've had your passport stamped for entry there, it's dead easy to pick up other local customs, like "For Queen and Country!", "A gentleman's valet is his most crucial possession" and "Stiff upper lip old man, a little thing like a Prussian clockwork zeppelin armada shouldn't be enough to dampen the spirits of an Englishman!"

EDIT:  "Customs", not "Customers."  Pick up local customers?  What was I thinking?

Sheesh, you'd think with all the games in my library I'd be able to pick out JUST one to praise to the heavens...

Fine, sigh, you got me. I love Dark Legacies, a setting book and D&D core book all in one. 'kay?

I love its dark twisted evil ways, I love it despite it's bastard child birth, the fact that I will NEVER get to play a character in it. I love the fact that a wizard has to eat a slice of pickled cancer to cast a spell, I love the fact that they don't tell you it's fucking Europe you're in, you have to look at the map and work it out for yourself. I love the the baddest race in the game is the fucking Gnomes, and the evilest is... er... all of them?  I love the fact that nothing is actually revealed, though they pretend it is.

I love the steam powered repeating assualt crossbows mounted to steam powered armor that only Gnomes make, I love cities the size of mountains, preists that have 'The Voice' instead of magic. I love that soldiers and fighters are two different things. I love commie fascist Dwarves and dying race elven traitors to all life.  I love half demon prostitutes and all demon sociopaths as playable races...

Now all it needs is little cannabalistic yellow lightning furballs and it would be truly complete.
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.
