This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Best sources for adding equipment/magic items and monsters to Dungeon Crawl Classics?

I love DCC, but the core book is woefully light on equipment, magic items, and monsters.  What are the best compatible sources for adding these in as the DCC book recommends?  I've got the 2E monster manual but I'm not sure how compatible that is with DCC, or the 1e and 2e DMGs for that matter.  I've also got ACK but the scale seems a bit off.

I'm currently looking into a DCC/ACKS hybrid.

Easy. Replace the DCC equipment list with the ACKS equipment list, prices and all.

Tricky. Magic item creation in DCC and ACKS uses divergent and incompatible systems. Now, because I tend to favor ACKS' super involved system over DCC's "here's the spell you have to cast to create this magic item" and speaking as a surgeon, I'm inclined towards yanking out the DCC item creation spells (e.g. sword magic, wizard staff) and replacing them with the ACKS system wholesale.

However, bear in mind that I'm still not sure how the fairly divergent character level demographics curves will interact with the magic item creation system and inform the magic item economy. I've just hit Alex over at the Autarch forums with this exact question, let's see what he says about it.

Stat blocks look close enough to 3.X that you can plug in the voluminous monster material available for that edition over to DCC with minimal effort. But I have yet to try it myself so, caveat emptor.

Yes they would.

The Goodman forum and the rpgsite are the only two sites I'm registered at. Heck they are the only two forums I post to for anything at all...ever since that unfortunate Craigslist incident. ;-)

Seriously the Goodman boards don't seem to get that much traffic. But if you post there you often get a reply from one of their writers or one of the 3rd party guys. Good info and helpful. The Google + board seems more active.

On the other hand on these boards you get good info. And you never know when you will stumble upon a nerd war of epic proportions full of colorful rhetorical flourishes and virtual bitch slaps.

All good either way.

I agree with Butcher on the equipment list import. I use one of the 3.x books to fill in the blanks on mundane gear. I've read some of ACKS on the pdf. and agree that would work fine as well... I believe it has ships and all too.

As for magic I think DCC is fairly complete but the info is scattered about the book and there is a fair amount of diy for the GM.

Sword magic can be applied to any weapon. There is a spell for potions that covers the highlights. Remember most scrolls and wands are going to mimic a spell with limited uses.
Wondrous items and magic armor is where you hit a wall. Bringing in items from other systems is your best bet here.

As for monsters...A friend gave me 2 of the 2e binders full of all the Monstrous Compendium releases. I have found using those entries and adjusting the AC works best for me. I got the Pathfinder NPC codex hoping I could plug and play those in DCC. I found the feats/ items inflate the hp and AC making it even more work than the 2e materials. It is odd because DCC is nominally based on the 3.x chasis. The damage reduction and immunities in 3.x also seem to play havoc on the stats when using those materials.

I recommend you try the 2e and give the creatures the closest corresponding AC.  Example: most natural animals = leather armor and maybe a bonus due to speed. Humanoids are going to have the AC of whatever armor they would have. Dragon = plate male. Demon hide might = chain or splint male AC.

general idea anyhow... meanwhile I'm waiting on Butcher's  conversions too.

Well DCC is a game on my wishlist so I gave my best suggestion but nerdwars are fun.;)

Other then that I only knew the broadstrokes to be honest.

Other then that I only knew the broadstrokes to be honest. I did do the funnel once and my elf survived but she had about the best feat possible iirc. The Purple Dragon apps are great and flat fun if you like creating characters quick.

RPGPundit

I use the equipment list from DCC, and supplement it with equipment from AD&D 1e.

As for magic items, I defer to the DCC material (which I agree is inadequate) and then substitute this with stuff from the DMG, with stuff from other old-school games, and also with a ton of Gonzo items I just make up.  I made up a big list of weird magic items that I occasionally randomly select from (these aren't usually stated out in the list, they're just a name, like "Ifrit Bottle" or "(Cursed) Pythian Power Rings" or "Dwarven Blaster" or "Brassiere of Femininity").  Some are self-explanatory of course.
