This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

30 years later, and I still hate the bastard.

Yeah... Someday I really should run an adventure about killing the bastard. Or well... I actually did it... but the group was TPK:ed by a red dragon before they could reach him. Next time!

You might like to know that in the magazine Dungeon 150, there is a scenario called Kill Bargle that is based on the sample adventure in the original Red Box Dungeon Masters Rulebook. While the original only details the first level, the one in Dungeon, by Jason Bulmahn, details a second level
Spoiler
and the confrontation with Bargle in his lair. In the scenario Bargle is a 7th level Wizard (3.5 edition).

It is for 3rd level characters in 3.5 but I reckon you could convert it to any version. I would be tempted to use either B/X itself or Swords and Wizadry. Basic Fantasy Role Playing would work great too.

I didn't even know about his being in Ravenloft, so before, haha.

Yeah there was a novel about it called Knight of the Black Rose. Not a bad read.

I don't know. Lord Soth seemed like too much of a Darth Vader ripoff to me.

I never even noticed that, because I was too busy being annoyed with Raistlin being a gold skinned Elric ripoff. :D

Well, I think he's not as much like Elric; Elric is a fighter, after all. At the time the novels/modules came out, I thought Raistlin was interesting compared to other main D&D setting wizards (all the others looked like Gandalf clones). Of course, I hadn't read nearly as much back then as I have now, and I no longer find him all that interesting a character.

I read quite a few Dragonlance novels, including the Twin's Trilogy. Caramon is not a very good Yrkoon. :D Certainly not my cup of coffee. I preferred Forgotten Realms in this regards because that world, like Oerth and Mystara, didn't have some meta story arc, and each book or series worked fine as standalone.

Elric is still my favorite D&D NPC. I remember MM mentioning on the Miscellany regretting letting Chaosium having the licence instead of D&D.
