This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Who are the most interesting Old School Forum Posters?

Planet Algol

Quote from: noisms;538678Ditto. He does really nice maps, too. If only he would post more often (hint, hint).
That goddamn dungeon of his!
Yeah, but who gives a fuck? You? Jibba?

Well congrats. No one else gives a shit, so your arguments are a waste of breath.

Black Vulmea

Quote from: noisms;538672I think Kent is one of the most interesting bloggers and forum posters around, personally.
Then it's a real shame he acts like a giant suppurating penis lesion.

Noisms, Planet Algol - Thanks. This thread has been a bit weird since I expected it would be a straightforward matter to gather some links to good forum discussions from the past. Instead, ... well it's been a bit weird innit.

Quote from: DestroyYouAlot;538522Finally, something of merit from the zit-poppers at grognards.txt:

(Hint: It's a dramatic reading of a blog post from a "most interesting Old School Forum Poster. :D  )

Strange. That guy is perceptive. I share many of his views but ... what US state does that accent belong to? Is there some state in the US where all the men are homosexual gentlemen?

He enjoys getting a rise out of people, clearly, but OSR types don't half make it easy for him to do that to them.

Serious Paul

I forget who ti was, maybe Benoist? At any rate that guy who posted pictures of himself and the Notre Dame RPG club playing an old school adventure. That's pretty sweet really. I don't play old school D&D, but with someone like that I might.

thecasualoblivion gets a rise out of people. Mistwell gets a rise out of people. kent just makes himself look like an ass.

And if he believes anyone at Knights and Knaves or Dragonsfoot is in any way troubled by his comments, he's deeply and profoundly kidding himself.

There are a couple of posters at K&K - and a double-handful at Dragonsfoot - I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire, but flinging poo at grognards is about as edgy and relevant as the comedy stylings of Carrot Top.

1998 called Carot Top the other day to ask for its fifteen minutes back.

True story. I saw it on the Internet.

This thread is a classic example of his getting a rise out of people, and I think it shows he's got more wit about him than 99% of forum posters.

I've also never heard of thecasualoblivion or Mistwell, so that goes to show something, I think.

Hopefully, 1998 charged a hefty chunk of interest to cover losses and impact to its reputation.

I am still trying to figure out if the animosity from Joel Hodgson was real or feigned.

Tactical miniatures gridbased game is a better definition than boardgame but I understand what Brendan is driving at. Also it's card game based via the powers because of the refresh mechanics feeling like "I tap this card" or "my ---- card just refreshed because that happened". Only daily powers are vancian.

Well you're not missing anything in not hearing about Mistwell or TCO. Twits are the same the world over.  Now Kent? Black Vulmea covered it nicely, see he doesn't have an excuse in my eyes to act the Jackdawed fool, no matter his intention because he's obviously intelligent and nothing is sadder than to watch a person of his acumen act the fool on purpose.

Well, as somebody who likes to act the fool on purpose myself, I appreciate it in a kindred spirit.

It's better than being boring. But I don't just like him for that reason - I like him because he's an interesting and perceptive sort of fellow underneath it all.

Understandable but please do see why I can't respect him or his methods of getting his point across. Far more effective would be to drop the bullshit because I neither have the time or inclination to figure out which is which.  Hence he's a troll, a really good one but a troll nonetheless.
