Alright, I've been getting back into old White Wolf stuff for the first time in a long while.
This includes both the Classic World of Darkness and the New World of Darkness as well as the Street Fighter RPG from the 90's. Naturally I am becoming rather nostalgic, but it also got me thinking about something...
There is a major problem with the old White Wolf IP's and that is Onyx Path Forums and their near-monopoly on the White Wolf fandom discussion.
Onyx Path are a very loud vocal minority and actively played a role in the failures of V5 and the demise of White Wolf under Paradox Interactive's control, and they also have a very strict and authoritarian forum culture that can best be described as a more focused and intensified RPG.net where SJW ideology is mandatory and any dissident opinions are an offense worthy of a permanent ban.
A lot of the same toxic people who run RPG.net with an iron fist also have a lot of sway at Onyx Path Forums, most notably Darksider, a very sociopathic and petty mod who gets sick pleasure from banning users or telling them off for disagreeing with the forum's zeitgeist. Again, he is smug and pretentious and a general scumbag.
However, I did not create this thread with the intent of bitching about Onyx Path and their political agendas, this is just a preamble to the main topic.
Onyx Path Forums is the direct successor to the old White Wolf Forums, and since White Wolf Forums went under in late 2012/early 2013, a lot of its competitors and sister sites went down with it, most notably Shadownessence.
So if you want to discuss any White Wolf game, the only game in town is Onyx Path Forums or starting a thread on a general RPG forum. We need to change that.
I am proposing a free and open-ended forum devoted to the discussion of Classic World of Darkness, Chronicles of Darkness, Exalted, Street Fighter: The Storytelling Game, Scion, Big Eyes Small Mouth, Mind's Eye Theatre, and fan games such as the many iterations of Princess: The Hopeful or older fan games like Senshi: The Merchandising.
It would be an alternative to Onyx Path Forums where you can openly discuss your opinions on your favorite games without being banned for political wrong think, going against canon, or disliking personal horror.
I'm envisioning this forum of mine to be The RPG Site to Onyx Path Forum's RPG.net
However, I can't do this on my own. I'm not really tech-savvy and I have no idea on how to build a good forum.
If anyone wants to help me in this endeavor, I would greatly appreciate it.
Any thoughts on this proposal?
Why not a discord? It is free and I can easily set it up. You just need to run it and bring in the people. If that fails I do have Riot.im account that is again free, ecrypted so we have privacy, and easy to set up.
Make your life easier and just start WW threads here (and the Pub). Starting a new forum is a pain in the ass, and you'd have to market it, then curate it to bring in the posters you want. Then, you could always PM posters that you think would be a good fit from RPGnet or elsewhere and invite them to your WW threads.
Did you ever play Aeon: Trinity? Or Adventure? Both were good White Wolf RPGs back in the day.
Here's the Trinity quickstart (its FREE!)

The D20 version is Pay What You Want

Same with Aberrant D20

I agree with Spinachcat, make World of Darkness threads here. This forum should be the go to place for role playing discussion that isn't dominated by SJW's - which should include White Wolf games. Making a forum just for non-leftist White Wolf fans is limiting yourself too much, especially when forums thrive on traffic.
Post about your favorite WW topics here, I'll reply with my input as a long time WoD enthusiast. I particularly like Vampire and Mage, though as a right winger I have a viewpoint of both settings that varies a bit from what you'd get from WW writers and most Onyx Path posters.

Hmm, I suppose you guys are right.
I think a Discord group would be a lot easier and better and I'm going to be more active in my gaming efforts.
Would anyone be up for a Vampire play by post on here?
First, to get this out up front. I am not a WW fan. Nor a hater. Just not my game.
Second, while I think creating more threads on this site is to the benefit of all, if I understand the OP correctly he's looking to create an alternate WW focused community. I don't think that's likely to happen by creating WW focused threads intermixed with content regarding a bunch of other games. However, if a WW focused sub-forum was created here, perhaps that could be the basis of a new community. Maybe the OP could ask RPGPundit if such a WW-focused forum could be created here on a trial basis. TBP already has the D&D genre of games separates into its own forum with all of the other RPGs stuck in a general forum. Maybe a variation of that approach could work, but focused on second tier games each possibly getting their own forum if there was enough interest.
And if a sub-forum here isn't in the cards then try the Discord approach as suggested previously.
A whole new forum best grows out of threads or even better yet a subforum in an established place. I think you need at least 10 reliable regulars to get started with, something for guest visitors to latch onto.
I loved playing most of the WoD games in the 90s, but didn't dig the CoD stuff (except the core book), and I backed most of the WoD 20th Anniversary books. May or may not get VtM 5E at some stage.
I wouldn't be a big contributor, but would occasionally chime in if I can on any random WoD threads here.
Speaking of which, Doc Sammy, had you check your discord lately. I left you a message.
Don't know about other people but I check forums more than discord, which is a bit of a pain on mobile. That being said, yay to more "virtue signalling" free RPG discussions!

I'll be sure to check it out today.
So, who would be interested in a Play By Post in this forum?
That section of this site is kind of dead, maybe we could bring some new life into it?
