This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

greatest horror one shot?

Which is, in your opinion, the greatest, most enthralling, chilling, cool modern horror scenario available on the web?

I'm planning a one-shot with Cthulhu d20 or d20 Modern, and I REALLY want to leave my players satisfied. They're usual D&D 3.5 players and don't really have experience in modern horror RPGs. They're quite the "you meet in a tavern and a guy approaches you..." type of players.

Note: I plan a d20, but I can adapt other systems to d20 as well, so feel free to suggest other systems scenarios.

Thanks!

I'm not sure if the style is appropriate for your group, but I've heard it said in a few places that Jailbreak! for Unknown Armies is the best one-shot ever.  Obviously an exaggeration, but I've played it twice and it is quite fun.  What's cool about it is that the more your players go off, the crazier and potentially more "horror" the scenario becomes.  It's about some escaped cons, with hostages, who hole up in an old couple's farmhouse during a hailstorm.  Shit ensues.  It would be trivial to convert over to D20.

It's in the book One Shots:

I had a blast playing My Overcrowded Pineal Gland (CoC). It's got a cool surprise, it's fast-paced and it's almost impossible to survive!

I dunno why, but "Night of the Walking Dead" for AD&D Ravenloft is my favorite. I think it had a lot to do with the mental image of the dead shambling across the open field, visible only when the lightning flashed, yet still murky from the rain that made me love it so much. Once scene, sure, but I ran that module three times and every time that scene made my players shudder.

I also really liked "The Haunting", a short adventure written for Call of Cthulhu.
