Which game has the most interesting Paladin?

The only D&D I ever had fun playing as the Paladin was in 4e. Every other edition it just came off as a glorified fighter.

Yes, that was one of the better ideas from 4th edition D&D, where it was called the Avenger. In fact, I'd argue the 4e version was better because it was sneakier, and gave off Batman vibes as a result.

Nice! I don't remember the 4e avenger, but I miss the 4e warlord.

There was an avenger in BECMI too, the chaotic counterpart to the lawful paladin IIRC.

I'd not say that avenger was Oath of Vengeance paladin.

Avenger was basically Holy Assassin, sneaky, more squishy, lorewise as divine classes did not lost once impaired powers after initiation - avengers were hunting and killing apostates to stop them from using their God power in wanton ways.

I could live w/o paladins per se, so long as you've got knights. I was a fan of cavalier as a general class with paladins being an even rarer subset of cavaliers.
