This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Which CURRENTLY AVAILABLE D&D version do you prefer?

A companion to the other poll - this time, you have to choose between versions of D&D which are currently being published and supported by their various publishers. In other words, versions which you can stroll into a game store and reasonable expect to be able to buy without going into the second-hand section.

Please note that while OSRIC would technically fall under the above description, I'm not counting it - a) because OSRIC products aren't appearing in game stores so far as I am aware, and b) because OSRIC isn't really independent of AD&D 1E - it is an OGL-inspired fudge to allow third party publishers to get AD&D 1E material out there.
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don\'t want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It\'s pretty chill so far.

It depends on what I want to do.  For GMing I lean towards True20 (with support books) because it's a bit easier to work with for me.

I would say C&C, but D&D 3x has it beat all the way around where product support and availability is concerned (both in terms of actual products being published and in terms of release dates being met). If I want to play game, having a steady stream of stuff for it being pushed into print and showing up at the FLGs wins BIG points with me.

Ummm... Can I suggest expanding the poll to include:

AD&D 1e
AD&D 2e
oD&D
B/E/C/M/I D&D
D&D 3.5

Ignore me, just noticed the two threads.. D&D3.x but only due to familiarity and core books only.

I'm unclear as to why OSRIC would be left off. Just because it's a "fudge" for OGL purposes doesn't mean it's not a currently available version of the game.

2e I could see leaving off, as I've never seen something like OSRIC for it (though I could be wrong and just leading a sheltered life).

I wouldn't play any of that shit with your dice.

Well, that's too strong, system's not that big a deal to me in the end. I guess C&C would be my top choice, followed by 3.14159. Hackmaster's a big glorious mess but when I actually ran it resolution time was just too long (I obey EVERY rule to the letter playing a game like that, otherwise what's the point...but it's not quite worth it when I play it that way even though a lot of the tables are a hoot).

True20, whatever man.

Bah. It's so easy to convert any 3.x stuff for C&C. It's a non-factor for me. Plus there's the added benefit of being able to convert 1st & 2nd edition stuff just as easily.

Always a tricky question, eh?

I think I'll go with True 20, if only because of the kickass Highlander Immortals / Imperial Rome game I'm playing in. I also like Iron Heroes (though a bit too time-consuming for me nowadays), good ol' 3.0/3.5, and Midnight (finally, a d20 magic system I can love). Never played C&C or Hackmaster, sorry.

I think I'll say True 20 but I also think OSRIC should be on the list. There's a printed book coming out, in hardcover and softcover.

Spot On.  C&C wins for me because it can use material for any edition of D&D with a minimum of fuss.

C&C... more precisely, C&C basic. I guess I could run a core books only 3.0 campaign, with severe limitations put on player choice, but what's the point.

I don't care too much about support. I don't want support except for fun adventures.
