SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Which conventions are not likely to ban you for wrongthink?

Several years ago PAX was heavy into the wokeness and pushing the agenda.

Didn't really see that at Pax Unplugged in Philly when I went in 2019 (it was right before the pandemic).  I want to go back this year which will be the first time I go back since then.  If there is wokeness, then I wont return.

A friend and I are discussing starting an OSR con around us and I would make sure X-Cards and wokeness were not allowed.

I have not heard any trouble from PAX since that one year.

What happened that year out of curiosity?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say mask and jab hysteria.
I'm a middle aged guy with a lot of free time, looking for similar, to form a group for regular gaming. You should be chill, non-woke, and have time on your hands.

Maybe a convention list along the lines of Ocule's wokemeter would be useful.
Creator of Radical High, a 1980s RPG.
DM/PM me if you're interested.

I think conventions might necessitate a logarithmic  wokemeter.

I recommend a mannequin wearing a red hat with a slogan on it mounted by the door.  The time and level of fiery but mostly peaceful destruction as well as the how much the convention staff justify it retroactively should be used as a two tiered system of measurement for wokeness at the con.

While some of the bigger conventions have their share of woke, I can say with some certainty that it's pretty easy to navigate your way through them without having to worry about getting banned.  You are much more likely to experience problems with smaller conventions where it is more difficult to avoid people looking to push an agenda.  At least that's been my experience.

If you live anywhere near Wisconsin, get your ass to VENGER CON!!!  Got a question, just ask!

I'll be there running 2 heavily modified Shadowdark games this year and the guest of honor is our own Diversity and Dragons!

Come on down and enjoy burning the torches into the darkness.

AFAIK: Garycon and NorthTexas RPG con is full of old school and modern gaming but hasn't gone the full wokescold Pronoun police that GenCon has turned into.

Stay away from DragonCon, it's an Anime/COSPlay event and there is miniscule gaming these days.
