This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Where the heck is D&D 5e?

They need to do some more press releases or something. Drum up some more buzz. Their advertising is fail.

"Buzz" for what?  The product sale date is 3/4 of a year out.  You are a special kind of stupid OR, have NEVER held a position in a business above floor sweeper.

Quote from: jadrax;707866Pretty sure its originally from the 1994 AD&D book, 'Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast'.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm not sure whether this makes it better, or worse, but thanks anyway. :D

The playtest has been pretty widely disclosed and discussed for the past year and a half over nearly every RPG forum I would expect it to be. Almost anyone who is interested in it and has internet access to get it will have heard of it and could get it if they so chose. I am not sure how much more "advertising" for a playtest they can do.

They need a Hulu ad if they dont have one allready. WOTC used to advertise on Hulu.

And thats one point. WOTC has a cartoon for Kaijudo. But not one for D&D?

They might be afraid of cannibalizing 4e sales, and they won't be actually selling 5e for nearly a year.

I'm actually getting more and more interested in 5e though. If they keep their promise to sell adventures and campaign resources instead of splats, and if they keep their promise to support variable play styles with modular rules then this really could be a return to D&D before splatbooks, bloat and metaplot railroading poisoned it.

Quote from: Skywalker;708429I am sure there is link to the playtest elsewhere on the site. You are the first person I have seen who has expressed difficulty finding it.

It is indeed, right there on the D&D homepage. Top right, the big white letters spelling out "playtest"

Buy something. 100% of the proceeds go toward legal action against people this forum hates.

Continuing to hemorrhage money from WotC and, in turn, Hasbro, leading to the IP getting shuttered, or even more corporate meddling of the sort that turned 4e into an ass sandwich of D&D and WoW.

I'd "Like" that news story, if there was a button. Or maybe not, if it took too much effort.

I've seen no evidence that WotC D&D has ever been hemorrhaging money. Something can turn a profit and still be a disappointment to the company, especially a larger company such as Hasbro, or even something WotC size when they can turn around and compare it to their other projects (MtG).

Any speculation into whether they are actually losing money is just that, speculation, and based on estimates of just the DDI subscribers, I would guess that they aren't.

Id say they arent loosing money. But they may be just breaking even. We know from actual staff posts that Hasbro keeps WOTC on a tight budget leash for some projects. You know something it wrong when they cant afford card art or even to differentiate two types of card back to differentiate. Which might explain why they hardly ever advertise any of their games. But doesnt explain how they can afford a cartoon series for Kaijudo.

Currently WOTC is again jockying with Sweatpea over the rights to D&D. That has got to be chewing through funds slowly.

The company that made the first D&D film. Hasbro says rights have lapsed because Sweatpea hasn't made any films for theaters since, Sweatpea claims the sequels they made for TV count, and Hasbro says nuh uh, because TV rights are covered under a seperate part of the contract. Hasbro has a standing deal with Universal Pictures, who want to do a D&D film.

Ohh...I thought it was in reference to the actual game property.  Heh.
