This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Where are all the Perfect 20 sites?

A brief explanation of what the hell a Perfect 20 site is might help. :)

Dr Rotwang!

...

...oh.  Yeah.

Well, y'see, Levi "Avatar Made From The Turtle In That Fish Movie By Pixar" Kornelsen whipped up a neat little d20 variant system called "Perfect 20".  It's kind of a cousin to "True 20", replacing classes with player-chosen "Advancement Traits", and generally runs around being pleasant.  It circumvents a lot of the probems I have with 3.x/d20M etc., and so I'm going, "Hmmm.  Hmmm...  Hmmm." at it right now.

I wondered if anyone out there in webternet land has seen any content designed for the game, is all.

Perfect 20 direct link.

There have been a few people asking this.  I've seen just a bare few feats and such, here and there, so far.

If you're willing to hack and clean, I've got a hard disk with a lot of old unfinished ideas for it.  I could happily post them for finishing up by others; I never seem to be able to get the momentum to do it myself.

James McMurray

Ah. Never heard of it. Doubt I'd play it though. With "perfect" in the name it can't help but be a let down. :)

Hmmm...I don't seem to get a-rollin', either, but last night, in bed (instead of, you know, sleeping), I made up a character and built him a gun and some aror and I was thinking, "Huh!  I could just make up some custom stuff for this here SF/adventure game that's in my and paste it on..."
QuoteLBA Mk I (Light Body Armor Group)
Cost: 9, Bulk: 2, Toughness: +2, Defense: +2, Max Dex: +3

Verming Arms KL-240 Heavy Pistol (Handguns Group)
Cost: 11, Bulk: 2, Damage: +10
However, I must take issue with the concepts of Weapon Group Proficiencies and their redundancy with the Martial Training feat...unless I'm misreading something, they kind of duplicate one another.

They do, sort of.

Weapon groups are like "I've studied swordplay, in many forms, and understand edged weapons".

Martial Training is like "Here's your standard-issue gladius, your armor, and your sheild, trainee.  You will learn to love these exact tools of war."

:D

It's perfect for me.

Hence "Levi Kornelsen's Perfect 20", as the whole title.

Oh, it's not perfect -- what truly is?  Maybe it's perfect for Levi.

I'd call it "Pretty Good 20" or "No-Hassle 20" or "Nuts With Classes, Let's Kick Some Booty 20".

Can I trade the MT feat for a +1 with a wepon?  So, like, Griff Hardigan, Space Merc has the Waepon Group Proficiency: Handguns, and then a  level of MT feat in Pistols for a +1 to hit, I'm thinking.

Sounds neat...

Hm.

Actually, it'd also be kind of neat if it stacked up so:

-Griff gets a set of proficient gear from "Ship-to-ship Combat" martial training.  This includes the Mark IV Laspistol.

-Griff is also proficient with all handguns, via Weapon Proficiency.

-Overlap of proficiencies = +1.

-So, Griff can use any handgun.  But, because of his extra training, he gets +1 when he's using the Mark IV Laspistol in specific.

Kornelsen, your hippie turtle avatar to the contrary, you are making good think.

I'm running a little math on weapon damages so as to set benchmarks for myself.  That gun up there, with its +10 Damage, will roll 21 damage on the average, which will (effectively) flat-out kill a foe with Toughness 8.

Since Toughness is 5 (base) + modifiers, the average human being has Toughness 5, whereas a 1st-level character is likely to have Toughness between 5 and 10, if you account for armor and stuff.

Hmmm.  Interesting.

Muh?

Page 6:

If the to-wound roll is made exactly, or by 1-4 points, it deals one a light wound, if it succeeds by 5-9 points, it deals a moderate wound; if the to-wound roll succeeds by 10-14 points, it deals a serious wound; and so on.

21 - 8 = 13.

That's a serious wound. The target is stunned.  They lose an action next round.  They also suffer the effects of having a moderate wound - losing dex bonuses to defense, and can't run or charge.  And the effects of a light wound; on rounds when they take strenous action, they toughness drops by the number of light wounds they have.

It's harsh, but effectively dead?

You need 15-19 (Incapacitating wound) or better for that shit.

THIS JUST IN: ROTWANG! IS AN IDIOT AND NEEDS TO LEARN HOW TO READ

Sorry, I did that at work between calls.  For SOME dumbass reason, I thought that 21 - 8 = 13 WOUNDS, because I was in a hurry and not paying attention even though I'd read the REAL, NON-STUPID rules last night.

Tonight I promise to re-read the stuff and re-do my math and show my work and stop being a motard.
