This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Consonant Dude

I'll vote "other" because my two favorites (SAS and T&J) aren't there.

DC Heroes. Does that whole point based heroes thing, is fairly detailed without requiring too many niggly choices. The flow is good, and the benchmark system captures high level supers well.

I also like Champions/HERO for it's ability to craft so many things to a "t", but accept that the power system is beyond many players.
The Secret Volcano Base: my intermittently updated RPG blog.

Running: Pathfinder Scarred Lands, Mutants & Masterminds, Masks, Starfinder, Bulldogs!
Playing: Sigh. Nothing.
Planning: Some Cyberpunk thing, system TBD.

i haven't played much SH stuff.  i'll read it on occasion, but generally like a bit more realism in my gaming, and 4 color/dudes in spandex generally doesn't cut it.  that said:

voted MSH (FASERIP).  played it a few times, like the way it covers power levels from IIRC feeble to beyonder scores.  never refereed it, tho.

also played in one campaign where the ref started us in "champions."  he was the only one with the rules, and none of us ever played it before.  it mostly worked, then he moved.  ref's hat went to me.

having a bunch of palladium stuff, we converted over to HU, and things worked pretty good.  i think it toned down the abilities, but i'm still not sure since i don't have champions.  i was going to convert everything to gurps supers but the group disbanded (multiple moves) before we could do so.

if i ran something again, i'd probably go back to the HU/kitchen sink approach, just 'cause i like the realistic power level and lethality.  but for "true believers!" kind of super action, uber over the top etc. i think MSH covered that pretty good.

always wanted to try V&V too.  all those ads in dragon mag with those jeff dee illustrated heroes. . . .:keke:

Quote from: zombenBest superhero game I ever ran used Gamma World 2nd edition as the core rules.
Holy crap.  In all the years that we played 1st edition Gamma World, why didn't we ever think of that?  Granted, there was the super-fast, super-smart mutated human I played, but his companion was a telekinetically-levitating sperm whale, so it didn't come off as "superheroes" at all.

Hey, that'd be perfect for TMNT-type stuff.  Mind, TMNT does pretty good for that too.  ;)

Marvel Super Heroes. Perfect mix of depth and complexity.

You can write up any comics character, without needing a calculator for character creation or combat.

Syzygy

1. Marvel SAGA
2. Marvel FASERIP
3. Champions.

I ran a Champs campaign all through high school.

I ran a Marvel FASERIP campaign for one year in college.

Word.

I still think in MSH terms too. Feeble, Poor, Good, Excellent, Remarkable, Incredible, Amazing, Monstrous, Unearthly, Shit X - Z, Class 1,000 - 5,000, Beyond.

:D

Dr Rotwang!

I cannot pick just one out of Marvel FASERIP, HERO and Powergame.  So don't try and make me or I will pummel you with ferocity and abandon.

Meantime, would you like some tea?  It's melon-flaovred!

You must been playing a different variant of Marvel than I was...

Advanced Set provided the additional ranks, but I think they were SHIFT too :D

As an aside, you can map H&S ranks to MSH ranks pretty well (some overlap because H&S uses fewer ranks)

Ordinary Human =Typical
Exceptional Human=Good
Spectacular Human= Excellent/Remarkable (Depending on the score)
Ordinary Superhuman=Incredible
Exceptional Superhuman=Amazing-Monstrous
Spectacular Superhuman= Unearthly-Shift X
Ordinary Cosmic=Shift Y- Class 1000
Exceptional Cosmic= Class 3000-5000
Spectacular Cosmic= Class Beyond

True H&S has one fewer attributes (no Fighting score, that's covered by Might, or Deftness depending on type/style of Fighting) but the other 6 map closely as well.

Anyway I'm just amused it turned out that way.

I have to go Marvel FASERIP.  D&D Basic may have been my first RPG, but MSH was the game I cut my teeth on.

FASERIP scores scaled neatly to classic/megatraveller as well.  made things easier for the and-the-kitchen-sink multidimensional game i ran in college!

jdrakeh

It was a close call between Champions and DC Heroes for me. Champions won out just because HERO is more versatile out of the box than MEGS is.

Mr. Christopher

I voted for V&V but if the Marvel Super Heroes Adventure Game (aka Marvel SAGA) was on there it'd be a tough choice.
Why are there so many songs about rainbows and what\'s on the other side? Rainbows are visions, but only illusions, and rainbows have nothing to hide.
