This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

What's your "magic deer"?

Quote from: MaddmanFor me, it's the Red Wizards of Thay.  In 3e they turned the villianous, slave-hoarding, undead army raising masters of the east into magical trinket merchants.  More than making an enemy less fearsome, it totally destroyed the image of one of my favorite villians.  IMC, if a Red Wizard was spotted in the city limits the guards freaked out and put out a call for all able-bodies mercenaries.  Now, these guys own shops!  Blech.

I agree that it makes them less fearsome, but more dangerous, because as you say, in the early days a Red Wizard wouldn't be able to walk across cities in Faerun, but know they've spreaded everywhere, and they're making a LOT of GP by selling minor magical items, so now they're everywhere and can support more "troops", etc.
Yes their rep has fallen, but their threat hasn't.:Red Mage:

Cause the one thing the Realms really needed was yet another Hidden Group of Powebrokers Operating Behind The Scenes pursuing their own Secret Agenda (OMT).
