What was playing Vampire: TM like in the earliest days of the game?

I never heard of Jack Chick until he died. The whole D&D scare/ban thing in the '80s? was not a thing at all here where we all played it and all the stores sold it. I guess some parts of the US have crap Christians, just like some editions of D&D are crap.

All parts of the U.S. have crap Christians, they even have an entire cable network, but Jack Chick was a level unto himself. I love Chick tracts. When I was living in Portland a little over ten years ago, there was an elderly couple that spent all day hanging out at the bus depot handing them out. My friends and I would specifically stop by just to pick up the latest ones. The very idea that these ridiculous little comics would somehow actually instantly convert someone is hilariously insane in and of itself, but the comics were so bizarre one can't help but love them. Dark Dungeons, the anti-rpg one may be the most famous (there was even a tongue-in-cheek fanfilm made a few years ago), but its only one of many subjects that are covered.

I had an idea for a 1e Masquerade campaign using the 1e Chicago by Night setting where the players are all in an Anarch street gang based on one of the Chicago gangs of old. But first the PC's must decide if they want to pledge loyalty to the People Nation or the Folk Nation, and from there, pick one of two or three gangs within that nation to represent.

If they're People Nation, I'm leaning towards the Latin Kings or the Almighty Gaylords, though I am open to the possibility of Vice Lords or Stoned Freaks.

If they are Folk Nation, either Simon City Royals or Harrison Gents, though I may also have the Latin Eagles and Imperial Gangsters as options as well.

Overall, my Chicago game would be an anime-influenced period piece set in the 1990's (there would be crossover with Sailor Moon/Senshi: The Merchandising, and expect the Sailor Scouts to hound the players if their Humanity gets too low) and be heavily inspired by The Shield, Gunsmith Cats, and Grand Theft Auto.

Quote from: Omega;922077The VCL minis game and a few others are like that. You could also play NUTS in that sort of manner. Fuzzy Heroes is war between toys. Or retheme Puppetland RPG into Plastic ArmyMenLand... d20m Gamma World also had the City of Forgotten Toys mini setting so totally possible to have little sentient plastic people battling it out.

Back on topic. I am surprised the Vampire TV series came out as well as it did. Quite a score for White Wolf.

You should read Blood In Blood Out by Lucien Soulban. Fucking excellent Vampire novel. Vampire done right. And it covers so much of the same ground you'll be hopefully covering and will be great primer on how to approach that background of life respectfully and do it justice.
S.I.T.R.E.P from Black Lion Games -- streamlined roleplaying without all the fluff!
Buy @ DriveThruRPG for only £7.99!
(That\'s less than a London takeaway -- now isn\'t that just a cracking deal?)

Quote from: Doc Sammy;925956Jack Chick would make a good mid-level Werewolf villain in my opinion. He's the sort of guy you love to hate. Even most Christians despise him and for good reason. He's a maniacal Neo-Puritan who makes their religion look bad.

And Gary Greenwald and his ilk. He did far more harm with his videos and TV shows.

I would go for something like Dead of Night for a horror movie one shot game.

for Halloween I bought "Vampire Bloodlines" for $5 on the Steam sale. I promptly updated it with "The Basic Patch+" and I was instantly transported back to the 90's early era Vampire. What a wonderful reminder of days gone by.

I use the True Patch myself. It doesn't release a new update every month and doesn't introduce new bugs with every update. Why doesn't Paradox remaster Bloodlines if they own the rights?

Anyhow, I'm currently converting Vampire's clans and bloodlines into colorful strains and sub-strains for Feed. It's quite liberating compared to the overbearing ST rules, while keeping the humanity conflict that differentiates Vampire from standard superheroes.

Funny enough, I've just resumed work on my conversion of Vampire: The Masquerade to Big Eyes Small Mouth 1E/Tri-Stat D6. So far, it's working out, and I kind of prefer it to the original ST rules (chopping out Humanity is extremely liberating). Plus, it's compatible with the Sailor Moon Role-Playing Game and Resource Book, so that's a bonus for me. Especially considering that I like WoD/Sailor Moon crossovers.
