This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

James's thread about Xanth and Book of Swords got me thinking about the world of Orb. In case some of you don't know, this is the setting for the Way of the Tiger gamebooks...I..uh..used to play them as a kid :D Some basic info can be found here:

I'm seriously thinking that this setting could be a contender for my long in development C&C campaign. The other settings are: Old Known World, Earthdawn, Fighting Fantasy setting (can't remember the name), Magnamund (Lone Wolf setting).

So, anyone got any more info/experience with this setting?

ahh, gamebooks.

One of those puppies had more imagination than something like WoW ever will.

Them was the days.

I remember playing through WotT #3: Usurper! like six times one summer, because fighting the flesh golem was a lot of fun.

There's also a Fighting Fantasy gamebook (possibly more than one) set in Orb; Talisman of Death. One of the harder ones, IMXP, if you play it honest, since you're equal parts 'adventuring' and 'on the run'. The bulk of the Fighting Fantasy books, however, were set in Titan.
Heroism is no more than a chapter in a tale of submission.

Titan. That's the one. If I'm not mistaken Pundit ran a T20 campaign set there. Hmm, so I guess it's between Orb, Titan and Magnamund....

I agree that the Orb had some great stuff - the valley of the undead being one of them. And the map was always really interesting but I don't think anything more came of it.

If you are thinking about Titan then the Titan WorldBook is a good buy  if only for the number of maps and settings they came up with. Its pure fluff but all the better for it and brings together a lot of the material in the games. Although the Magnamund one is also good, its less so - the World Gazeteer is the best part of that one. Not sure how much was ported over into the RPG though.

If you go the WotT route, I have an old document I pulled off the internet a while ago called The Encyclopedia of Orb you may find this useful.  A bunch of setting info.  Let me know if you're interested and I'll send it to you.

That would be extremely helpful Technomancer. I've been looking around online and have yet to come up with anything. Thanks.
