This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

A New Game and Asking for Tips

Hi guys and gals!

I'm not going to post anything regarding crowd-funding or advertising here.  I am a first-time game designer, creating my first game (which is in its Beta Testing as we speak!), but before I get into much detail, I wanted to make sure that I'm not stepping on anyone's toes or breaking any rules.

I tried to find something that was associated to 'pimping my game', but could not locate anything.  However, I did see the 'Do you want to advertise here?' post, although I don't want to go quite that far just yet.

Is there an unspoken (or written rule) that I might have missed about talking about my game? I'm looking at getting my name out there, and I'm quite excited about my project!  If this particular site isn't a good place for what I'm looking for (exposure and the sort), perhaps someone could suggest something that might benefit me?  You have to start somewhere, right?

There are some conventions that I'm hitting up this year (three in particular) to host a 1-shot game and hopefully get this ball rolling.  One in Burlington, one in Peterborough, and one in Hamilton!  I would very much like to hit up GenCon next year, but one step at a time, right?

As well, I've started off in Rockethub (as Kickstarter, it seems, won't work for me here in Canada) to get some funds my way for printing costs and the sort.

That's all I'll talk about for now. I'll wait 'til I get some sort of response before I post anything about, well, anything.  I'm eager to get some sort of exposure that isn't limited to my friends and their friends.  It's good to have, but it can only go so far.

Thanks!

Welcome to theRPGSite! :D

No, it's perfectly fine to talk about your game here.  There are many posters here who have both written and published their own games, and they talk about them all the time.

If you want to talk about the design and game play of your game, then you should probably post it in the Design, Development, and Gameplay forum.

I look forward to hearing about your game! :)

Thanks!

Wow. I really didn't expect an answer that soon!

With that said: I'm off to said the Design, Development, and Gameplay forum!

If you want to "advertise" without buying a impression ad, you can use the Ad's forum as well.

Design and Development is a good place to talk about design, and of course just shooting the breeze on any game not "ad copy/design" is usually for this forum as I understand it.

Of course. The tag labelled conveniently 'News / Ads' at the top.  Two tabs beside 'Forums'.  I blame this on 'New Forum Blindness', where one is excited to be a part of the community, one is blinded by some of the more obvious things.

I shall check that forum as well!  Thanks!
