This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Ghost Whistler

Given that FFG is american, is this worth bothering with from overseas? There's no indication it's open only to US residents.
"Ghost Whistler" is rated PG-13 (Parents strongly cautioned). Parental death, alien battles and annihilated worlds.

So has anyone else submitted to this?

Quote from: BedrockBrendan;476733I understand why they would reject applicants who write such content, but it seems a little odd they would mention this in the writing sample guidelines.

Because Carcosa, that's why.

I did earlier in the week.
Turned around a Rogue Trader sample in about 24 hours.

I chose to do the Kantus priest from gears of war. I interpreted what they were looking for as established licensed settings as opposed to inventing stuff yourself. I may be wrong.

Errr...I'd actually say "yes".
Part of the "small print", is that FFG & GW gain all IP of any submitted work (which is fairly standard).

If you were adapting an established work, you would have been better served using the Star Wars license (since they're recruiting specifically to that purpose).

I don't know if there's an established mythos behind the Kantus Priest, but if so, it might look like you're doing a "copy n' paste", rather than new work.

Which brings me back to my first question upon reading the Open Call: "Can we make multiple entries?"

Is this an established word for slaanesh-fan-porn, or did you just invent it?  If the latter, bravo.
Wampus Country - Whimsical tales on the fantasy frontier

"Describing Erik Jensen\'s Wampus Country setting is difficult"  -- Grognardia

"Well worth reading."  -- Steve Winter

"...seriously nifty stuff..." -- Bruce Baugh

"[Erik is] the Carrot-Top of role-playing games." -- Jared Sorensen, who probably meant it as an insult, but screw that guy.

At this point it would be irrelevant, thursday was the closing day.

TBH, as is the case with FFG, they weren't very clear. I would hope I haven't made the wrong choice, but I don't think that licensed material is the issue it's a test of your writing. The submissions guideline didn't say you should create something for either WFRP/40k/SW at all. It said using WFRP or 40k rules, write up a monster from science fiction and fantasy. We don't know if they are planning on writing a star wars rpg, even though that's a safe assumption. If they wanted a creature from star wars, why not just say so - and the 40k rules for star wars? Of that I'm not at all sure.

The latter, though I don't want to inspire a new subculture of internet perversion.

I did. Good luck to anyone else who said "what the hell" and gave it a shot.
