The "Ernie Relief Trust Fund" has been set up. You can read about it here: http://gygaxmagazine.com/auctions-for-ernie/

You can basically set up eBay auctions with some of the proceeds going to the fund, or you can give directly to the fund if you wish.

To respond to earlier questions, Ernie did have insurance on some particular items like the computer, as far as I know, but Scott, his room mate, who is a war veteran and a good guy, had none. They're in it together, and the proceeds from the fund will help them both.
