This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Arkansan

Yoon-Suin, bought it when it first came out but haven't had a campaign started since then.

Spinachcat

Island of the Purple Haunted Putrescence by Venger Satanis.

I've been looking forward to doing a mini-campaign of Islands and I'm still unsure if I will run it with OD&D or Gamma World.

Hmm...I'll try to keep it relatively spoiler free while still giving a good idea.

First of all, it's a lot of product for the money, (even more of a bonus if you buy it during the annual Lulu black Friday discount that is coming up soon).  60+ pages of module (there's really two modules that don't have to be used together), some new magic items, and 18 new monsters ranging from low-level stuff to some powerful and unique beings.  So what I'm typing is just highlights because an in-depth review would be large.

It's for the low to mid levels: 3-5 and 4-6.  If you want to play a D&D-type game with players well-versed in the classic monsters, this product will negate some of the advantage experience and familiarity bring, because while there are a dash of the normal monsters they are few and far between.

It's classic Finch...Erol Otis D&D, not Larry Elmore D&D.  Toad men are manipulated unawares by mushroom men.  The dead god mentioned in the Lulu blurb created a gigantic hollow in his dying, which both races share.  Matt uses this device to great effect in creating his maps which have features like large (and high) caverns and gigantic balcony-covered towers that are a cross between a colossal mushroom stem and a lava lamp. I'm a very tactically-oriented D&D player, so the possibilities for 3-dimensional combat are intriguing.

There are toad-hydras; tibetan-style toad monks; depraved toad kings; sentient, horse-sized quadrupedal plants that wield polearms and have a bite like an alligators; floating, cycloptic, psionic brains; hints/hooks of lost cities of which all that remains are demonic-looking creatures that throw sporeballs; quasi-intelligent flying fungal mounts used to create aerial cavalry; men twisted into fungal lycanthropes.  And more.

There are levers to pull and areas of bizarre magic that can leave a character changed.  And environmental features which can be used to the characters' benefit if their secrets are deduced.

For people who value role assumption, there are some interesting opportunities to impact play through that.  If you're not, then it doesn't require it by any means.  It is not an adventure path: there is no "go here and do this, then go there and do that", although there is a situation in progress that will advance independent of the PCs if they leave it alone.  Having it advance to fruition might be very interesting for long-term campaign play.

The shrooms are the centerpiece of the module; if you have Matt's first module "Pod Caverns of the Sinister Shroom", then you will be familiar with them, and this module can easily serve as a sequel to that earlier one; indeed it suggests that some entry passages might come from a dungeon above.  It would also work quite well as an area of expansion to an underdark sand box like D1-3, although you might want to beef up the monsters a bit, depending.  But thematically it's right in that GDQ "here are open areas for you to expand upon" ballpark.  You could link it up with Cyclopean Deeps for a D&D campaign that is very un-Tolkienish.

Deep Carbon Observatory, Vornheim (got a PDF copy but just not been able to sit down with it so I'm looking to nab a hard copy at Dragonmeet this year), and Dark Albion.

Theres possibly others but they escape me at the moment!

If I could humbly suggest you read this. I ran it for 8 weeks using LotFP, was a blast. Even got Venger to create a video for me so he could cameo in the final session. I was fortunate enough to have a player group who were more than willing to buy into the gonzo nature of the setting and the time just flew by.

Kuroth

I've been using the d30 books in my BFRPG campaign, and they're just a ton of awesomeness.

The free D&D 5e Quickstart. It is OSR, as far as I'm concerned, just mixing influences from more than one previous edition.

And Monsters and Magic is probably next.

#1 definitely Isles of Purple-Haunted Putrescence.
#2 probably Stonehell: Down Night-Haunted Halls.

I haven't used Revelry in Torth either.Otherwise my OSR stuff tends to see heavy use, far moreso than most of my Paizo & WotC stuff.

The Beyond The Wall stuff I found on RPGNow, and suggested here by someone, whose name I feel bad for forgetting.
