This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

What is your preferred type of Superhero to play?

Do like to be a brick like the Hulk, a blaster like Cyclops, a manipulator like Magneto, a psychic like Dr. Xavier?

I kind of prefer to play flying bricks with a purpose that mimic Superman's strength and toughness. I guess the archetype would be a champion.

My other favorite type to play is a power-armored guy. Depending on your armor, you can go in almost any direction with it. It's just really flexible in the initial character design.

Wisecracking asshole.

Oh, uh, with some powers, normally.

I am very much partial to "power armor" types a la Iron Man.

From a "power/role" standpoint, these characters usually turn out surprisingly like paragon/flying brick/Superman types: armor/invulnerability, super-strength, flight, super-senses, energy blast. This variety also means they can get pricy in certain point-buy systems.

IceBlinkLuck

Usually psionicist of some stripe. Last hero I played was a specialist in illusions and emotion control.

Yes. Is that a passable answer? Yes?

I'll play any archetype, cook up my own crazy things and play them too.

Last night I was poking at a MSH roller that has UPB stuff added on and rolled me up a Gray furred Lupinoid with superspeed, super-fighting, and gravity control! I'd so play him.

You let me make something that works for me? I'll play it.

I had MUCH fun with the Super Sorcery rules in the Necessary Evil rulebook...playing in a Savage Supers game, a wizard would be my pick.

Otherwise, I'm kind of a fan of the "BadAss Normal" ala Captain America (yeah, I know he's REALLY pushing it) or Batman.

I always makes something different.

My favorite guy (all this in Heroes Unlimited) was a wizard. He was a young guy with a mix of attack and spiritual powers who learned on the side during college. He got an art degree and made money basically the same way as spider man. He even sat on roof tops with a police scanner.

The new one I wrote up for a future game in a few months is a Kyokushin Karate master with super high attributes and will power. While is attributes are super human, our story is that only his willpower is a freak ability. Having such total self mastery let him gain the other high physical stats and martial arts ability.

His main attack is the break the chi of an object or person with a punch. He can break anything potentially. He could even kill superman if he could get a fist in him. Good stuff.

My longest-running superhero character was based on this video. Basically he kicked people in the face with skates and spraypainted villain hideouts with his tags. He was devastated when Superman thought he was just a delinquent.

Words fail me how much I loved that game.

I even worked "new netrium batteries" into the description of his skates one time. One other person at the table recognized the reference and he sat straight up and stared, then fell apart laughing.

I don't play Super RPGs often, but when I do I like to be the heavy.  Characters like the Thing or Colossus.  I like to be able to solve problems by throwing city buses at them.

I like low-powered heroes that are kind of crazy... so something like Eddy Current would suit me.
Also, anything like the mystic/paranormal heroes... Mandrake, Dr. Strange, Dr. Fate, The Phantom Stranger.

Have you ever read Mr. Monster?

Not a lot, but enough to know I need to read more... from what I recall he reminded me a bit of old Luchador monster movies like 'Santo y Blue Demon Contra los Monstruos'... and Charles Burns' 'El Borba' comics... which all would make for a great RPG... load up our team of Luchadores into the Taco Wagon and head off to put the punchdown on Caltiki.

I don't have a set type of hero. I do prefer well defined, iconic powers rather than Green Lantern ring or Rogue like power-theft style powers which kind of allow you to do anything depending on the circumstances.

Also, super-leap is totally underrated.
