This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

What do you get out of D&D edition wars?

Gosh! Lordvreeg just sucked in one cheek so hard that the entire universe is imploding!!!!

By all that is holy I've got to get back to that basement*... (How did he know about the basement? Must have watched the YouTube game session videos**... )

Quote from: Benoist;459018So that clarifies the brevity of the posts and not rambling on and on about stuff you already talked about zillions of times on the net. I get that. But what about the clarity, now? Why make an allusion instead of point-blank one-liners everyone can understand? "This game is shit, and the author is an asshole who tries to appropriate the work of EGG by publishing it with the numbers filed off under his name." I understand that better than obscure references like you were engaging in a few posts ago (not that I would agree at all, mind you, but I understand better the words themselves).

Your saying this as if I want to reach a consensus. I don't. I'm saying to you, Benoist, right now, that that notion that I once had of a grouping is all gone. I want no part of it. If I'm stamping on the nuts of the OSR then lets get this straight it is because I want it well known that is not my deal. I hope they benefit off of that but in same breath I don't give a shit what becomes of them. Does that make sense?

Basically I hear "Because I Got High" by Afroman playing over the last couple pages of this thread.

Really, because what I hear is the squealing inarticulate anti-logic of a menstruating  eighth grade girl.
You are posting in a troll thread.

That's too bad, because I got a kick out of those.

Oblivious Gamer: I like to play games: wargames, role-playing games.

Me too, bummer. :(

I'm sorry I missed the vids.  I bet they were a hoot.
But I'll be honest.  The Basement was just a safe assumption.

Gene.  Thank you for the lucid post. :D

Yes it does to some extent, though I'm not quite getting what prompted this apathy on your part.

So, you're going to buy lots and lots of Munchkin?

Oh well, I think what he's saying or not managing to say directly about the source of his his apathy (actually I think it's probably hostility but he's trying to be civil or something) is that the flaming egos and trolling and general stupidity that led to first the division of the C&C and OSRIC crowds and followed by the general OSR disporea, have reached the point where he no longer cares. (or is quitely bitter) What he wanted to see was a united movement under a single open old school banner and all he got was an edition war in cheap OGL drag.

Several stoner friends from decades ago, spoke in a similar incoherent manner in person.    (Typically it was from too many years of abusing lsd, cocaine, meth, etc ... and/or smoking marijuana every day).

Only other individuals I've known over the years who spoke in a similar incoherent manner, were guys who were slightly mentally retarded.

Form the group wisely, make sure you share goals and means.
Set norms of table etiquette early on.
Encourage attentive participation and speed of play so the game will stay vibrant!
Allow that the group, milieu and system will from an organic symbiosis.
Most importantly, have fun exploring the possibilities!

Running: AD&D 2nd. ed.

Its compiled. Convention prompts just turn in to the same "shunted mini-GenCons". Same distance, same people, why bother? (Honestly, I'm the life of the game all the time and this leads me to believe that most gamers are susceptible to post-Weigel depression... ;) )

But if it was just cons then that would be fine but nobody wants me to help with anything without a huge compromise (from debilitating exclusive contracts to just plain old freaking over my feedback) and thats been the tone for years.

So why bother with the consensus? If my blog is good enough (and it will be because it'll be free) then I'll make the "school"...
