This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

What are the 4e fanboys saying now?

;)

Here in the UK "on the job" serves as a suitable euphamism. This makes that outfit perfect "on the job" attire.

Absolutely. The next is an sterling example.

Quote from: 1989;434752The problem with 4e is that it's a pile of shit -- a tactical boardgame of fantasy superheroes.

How to improve 4e? Throw it in the garbage and bring back AD&D.

If enough people voice their displeasure (and vote with their wallets), then we may eventually get a game that can meet the needs of many playstyles (as was the case with AD&D) instead of just one playstyle.

Dude, your threads are the saddest. And, by the way, not enough people is going to voice their displeasure because most people seems to be OK with 4e D&D or even with other different games than D&D, God forbid it.

4e is not my favourite edition (that would be RC), and it has things I dislike, but it has also some good ideas. We tried it, it was nice, maybe we will play a longer campaign some day. Right now, I'm running Cthulhu, and next Aquelarre.

This threads based oon uninformed wishful thinking and sad bile need to die.
My name is Ramón Nogueras. Running now Vampire: the Masquerade (Giovanni Chronicles IV for just 3 players), and itching to resume my Call of Cthulhu campaign (The Sense of the Sleight-of-Hand Man).

Quote from: Spinachcat;434713If I took Uwe Bol's next movie and switched out the credits with Lars von Shitty, there is no doubt the critics would swoon and exclaim breathlessly about the "daring" and the "brilliance" of the movie.

Maybe you are right: I see that happening with 4E, for example.
For every idiot who denounces Ayn Rand as "intellectualism" there is an excellent DM who creates a "Bioshock" adventure.

I know everyone else has already mocked this post, but this is only a slightly more extreme post of what I've seen a fair amount of people say online.

Look guys, it's not the 1980's anymore.  It's just not.  It's never going to be the 1980's again.  Ever.  It's been 30 years since 1980.

Those of us who were alive in the 80s had some fun then, but that time is over now.  Stop being the uncle from Napoleon Dynamite and figure out how you can enjoy the 2010's instead of obsessing about how much you loved 1987.  Seriously, I liked 1987 too, but its time to move on.

No matter what happens with 4e or WotC, I can guarantee one thing - the next edition is not going to look like 1980's AD&D.
Now Prepping: One-shot adventures for Coriolis, RuneQuest (classic), Numenera, 7th Sea 2nd edition, and Adventures in Middle-Earth.

Recently Ended: Palladium Fantasy - Warlords of the Wastelands: A fantasy campaign beginning in the Baalgor Wastelands, where characters emerge from the oppressive kingdom of the giants. Read about it here.

Quote from: Shazbot79;434806It's actually random aspie basement cases like 1989 that get so emotionally invested in this stuff as to become incensed and actively antagonize fans of games that they don't themselves enjoy.

They're not random. It's the same folks, time and time again, saying the same tired, mindless thing again and again. You can, for example, almost count the seconds between the time I say something positive about 4e and jeff37923 pops up with his typical bullcrap.

But if you feel the RPGsite is the place to have a debate about 4e, I wish you the best. Please, do us the honor of kicking off the discussion.

(I'll just stand here with a stopwatch, timing how long it takes for the thread to be swamped to the point of uselessness in venom and crap.)

This made me smile.

Why? Because a while ago Seanchai made a big production about placing me on his Ignore List. Now if I am on his Ignore List, then how can he see my posts and then see out what they say?

Unless he lied about putting me on his Ignore List, because he finds my commentary rivetting and insightful. :D

I don't believe that anyone actually uses their ignore function...our egos won't permit it. Afterall, how are we supposed to find out how someone responded when we told them we were putting them on our ignore list?

Ignore functions generally give you the option to view specific posts of a blocked person by clicking a button.
"In a way, the Lands of Dream are far more brutal than the worlds of most mainstream games. All of the games set there have a bittersweetness that I find much harder to take than the ridiculous adolescent posturing of so-called \'grittily realistic\' games. So maybe one reason I like them as a setting is because they are far more like the real world: colourful, crazy, full of strange creatures and people, eternal and yet changing, deeply beautiful and sometimes profoundly bitter."

So you do keep reading my posts even though you have me on your Ignore List. You are merely another one of the thousands of fans who just cannot get enough of me. I appreciate that, I really do. It is fans like yourself that make me want to keep posting my wisdom and brilliant commentary. Its all for the fans like Seanchai. :D

Quote from: Drohem;434302My long time group of friend literally swore off any other RPG when 4e D&D was released, and literally threw away their old gaming books.  They've only played 4e D&D since its release.  I was interested to seeing their reaction to the Essentials line and changes, and so keep my opinion quiet and listened to them.  It turns out that they have unilaterally decide to stick with 4e D&D and shunned the new Essentials line.  I was kind surprised since I thought for sure that they had drank the "WotC Kool-Aid" (as it were) and would jump over to the Essential line without blinking.  All but one of them canceled their DDI subscription.

I honestly don't know anyone that has switched to Essentials from 4E here.  Doesn't seem like any of the local 4E players see any reason to make the change, which is kind of funny... It's the same thing that a lot of the 3x guys said to them when they jumped on 4E and now they're saying it about Essentials after berating the 3x people for not "moving forward".  I don't play D&D any more (in any version) but I am with the crowd that thinks Essentials is too little, too soon.

Spinachcat

I see 4e players treating Essentials like the PHB 2.  It's just new classes to add to your existing game.

In 2e speak, remember how the kit supplements didn't negate your PHB, nor were they required to continue playing 2e.

4e GMs seem to prefer the Essentials monsters, but I am still getting plenty of punch from my MM1 and MM2.  For me, I dealt with the low damage issue by granting +1W to all monsters, granting 1 AP to elites and 2 AP to solos and that accomplished everything I needed.

I hope everyone who stuck with 3e is having a great time.  I'm just glad there are other RPG options for me and my players.

That's all I see it as. I just see it as more stuff. Andf I allow everything so it's all good.

I'm agnostic on monsters. I just use the online compendium and the monster builder to build stuff, so I usually never even think about whether a monster is from whatever book. It's just monsters. I do a lot of customization, but I don't mess with mechanics much.

ie- I just changed a bronze-warder into a police riot-squad robot for Gamma World. I changed a half-ogre knight into a Carrin Dark Emperor.
