This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Apparently, the release date for the first WH40K RPG has been pushed back, so it won't be coming out now until Fall 2007, a year from now.
They say its so that they can "fine tune" and "Playtest"; that's all well and good. I only wish it had been so that they could rethink the utterly stupid idea of making three mini-games instead of one full-blown RPG.

Mr. Christopher

Speaking of utterly stupid ideas, I playtested WFRP 2E a few years ago. They were initially going to add Ogres to the player character races. Fortunately Green Ronin is much better at listening to their playtesters than some other companies I could name, such as Guardians of Order.
Why are there so many songs about rainbows and what\'s on the other side? Rainbows are visions, but only illusions, and rainbows have nothing to hide.

On the Ogre subject if I remember correctly from some of the conversations Ogre's would have 0-1 fate point IIR.  So mechanically they were actually a rather week race to play.  I mean sure they are statistically tough but any Warhammer player knows how damaging a lucky blow, or poison can be.

The bigger issue (and the reason I'm glad they didn't) about adding them is their social aspect in the game.  In Norsica they'd fit, and yes there are some Ogre Mercenaries in and around the Empire.  But that would just create for annoying encounters.  Lots of send the Ogre in situations.  Quite boring really.

Yes, I agree. Ogres are just too rare to be a viable player race (at least in the main book; it could be added as an optional in some appropriate sourcebook).

I put them on the same level as the Were PCs allowed in the Tome of Corruption.  I'm glad they're out there, in case I want to try them sometime, but  I'd hate to have to deal with them in the regular menu.

Are there rules for other crazy PC races in any of the supplemental books?

Edited to say:  It's a damned shame they knocked it back so far.  For some reason, though, it's not a surprise.  Something that has the weight of the 40K name behind it damn well better be golden out of the gate.

Pundit, the more I've thought about it, the more your opinion on the multi-book minigames makes sense to me. Frankly, I don't think I'm even going to be able to afford the game when it comes out, if they do it the way they're talking about.

There are some Ogre PC rules you can download off of BlackIndustries website.  No official mind you - but from what i remember it seemed fairly balanced.

As for other strange PC races there (as was mentioned) the Were beasties from Tome of Corruption.  The Clan of the Horned Rat has rules for Skaven PC's (I would hope a GM would have the common sense to not allow them in a regular game though).  Other then that nothing really else.  Well actually guess there are enough base rules to put together goblins based on what's in the Bestiary.

Personally I'm fine with how they are releasing 40k it suits my intentions on how I plan on using it anyway.  I certainly can see the reason why people are pissed off that it's not an all in one book.  But the financial side I don't see as being a problem.  If it was an all in one book it'd probably come in around $80 as it sits now you are probably spending around $26 each for 3 books over 3 years.  To me that doesn't seem like a big deal.

Glad to see you're coming around. Now if only GR/BI would. Apparently, we now have a year to push them to, people!

Not sure exactly what they mean by "fine tune".

Does this mean they are using a new system?
Waiting on the market to change?
Something internal at Green Ronin we dont know about?
Other planned releases from Black Industries?

Frankly I'm sort of pissed at the way they're handling the game.

I've been wanting a 40k RPG since the day I discovered 40k.  The universe is just plain cool.  It's a massive stuff with gobs of cool stuff all through out.  A bunch of races, each with their own whole culture and backstory.

And all we get to be is lapdogs for an inquisitor, and fight Chaos.  Yay.

I want the 40k universe in an RPG, not one tiny portion of it.  This is fucking crap, and the same reason I passed the last time they did this, when it was called Inquisitor.

Odd that while you don't start as an Inquistor anyone can eventually progress to become one, if the characters are just the Retinue and the Inquistor (at least at the start is an NPC) isn't there a danger of the Inquistor becoming a "DM PC" and solving everything for the party since he is likely to be significantly more powerful than them.

Ummm not to nit pick but the game that was called Inquisitor wasn't an RPG - it was a mini game (thought they were large scale) and was just about fighting badies as members of the inquisition.

Yea, this whole deal is getting more craptacular by the second.  It positively reeks of "The gaming company is going to tell you how to play; we'll even have powerful NPC figures as central to the game so that we can control you through metaplot".
