Title: Weirdest Edges and Hindrances?
Post by: CM_Suzerain on September 30, 2020, 12:04:04 PM
So reading through wider Savage Worlds books, third parties etc., such as Savage Rifts and the Suzerain Legends core book. Mainly research but also to try and get the creative juices flowing! I noticed a lot of the Edges and Hindrances like Living Banner (Suzerain), Stutter (Suzerain), and World Scry (Rifts) though very cool and useful for gameplay they're all very serious.
Question - What's the weirdest/funniest Edge and/or Hindrance you've come across in ANY TTRPG? Or what the weirdest/funniest one you can make-up whilst keeping it playable?

I'm tolerably fond of Weirdness Magnet in GURPS, a -15 disadvantage.  I'll quote the first paragraph of the description:

QuoteStrange and bizarre things happen to you with alarming frequency.  You are the one demons stop and chat with.  Magic items with disturbing properties find their way to you.  The only talking dog in 21st century Earth comes to you with his problems.  Dimensional gates sealed for centuries crack open just so that you can be bathed in the energies released ... or perhaps the entities on the other side invite you to tea.

It's less a harmful disad than very, very inconvenient, and anyone who isn't a fringe loony has a negative reaction roll to the character.

At some point, I wish Pinnacle would rewrite certain Edges (especially ones gained through Hero's Journey rolls) so that they are at least moderately useful for characters who aren't spec'd for them.

Example: Scrounger, in SWADE: Rifts, lets you use the Networking option for Persuasion/Intimidation to get certain things. Which is great, if you're the team face, but less so when you're the Combat Cyborg. Instead of sticking the poor 'borg with a Persuasion or Intimidate check (don't forget his -1 penalty on social interactions), just let him spend a benny to find one of those listed items in the sourcebook.
