Unlike TORG, LoC doesn't try to tell a story.  It just gives you the tools to tell your own multiversal tales of adventure.  And while the powers list is narrow, implicit to the overall design is the idea that you will expand it as you see fit.  At least that's my reading.

I do not talk about GURPS (much) or Hero (much) because ethey have their own dedicated Forums. The Hero Games Discussion Boards is my favourite. I am more of an organizer than a creator, but I do get occassional flashes of inspiration.

Hero System sold me based on character creation and playability.


GURPS sold me with Dodge, Block, and Parry.

As many of my RPG posts attest, I'm a big fan of the EABA system by BTRC.  I also like CORPS for grittier games.  Both notch in nicely as my favorite generic systems by a long shot.

I'm also very interested in Deliria, but have done no more than read through the rulebook, which could use some heavy editing, but does contain good ideas when you dig for them.

A long-running favorite in our group is Darkurthe Legends...more the setting than the mechanics, although the spell creation system is very notable.

I'm working up a re-start of my DL campaign using Fate version 3.0 (basically Spirit of the Century), which is looking very promising.

Everyone is enjoying my current Savage Worlds game.

I still hope to run or play A|State, Over the Edge and Unknown Armies at some point.

I've also made extensive use of the Dark Conspiracy setting, but using the CORPS mechanics.  Big fan of TORG, but that at least gets occasional mention.

Hm...I think that about covers the games I like that get little mention.

Oh, and d02. d02 is one of the most fun games I've ever played. The PbP of it I ran got deleted twice from rpg.net before they decided it wasn't spam. d02 is unabashedly juvenile and ridiculous and wonderful for being so.

Would you recommend the book to other folk that like fairy tales?  I've generally heard bland to negative things about it, and so never picked it up... though it looks tempting.

The vast majority of the book seems to be flavor text.  That's actually not really fair, as a lot of effort is spent trying to convey the feel of the setting, which can be a difficult task for something that is by definition surreal.  I actually found this text useful and well written, but it is hard to read all at once.  It might have been better to put the actual mechanics closer to the front so you have a more concrete idea of how the game works, then as you read the flavor text it would have been easier to see how to use it within the mechanics of the game.  Hard to say.  I'm still working through the book, and have just about gotten to the actual mechanics of the game.  I did skip ahead to the magic chapter, and found that to be pretty impressive.  I like their take on magic.

Definitely not a book for everyone.  Looks nice, though.  I'll have a firmer opinion once I get through the mechanics, but I'm already intending to use it as a source of ideas for the Fey in my own fantasy campaign, even if I don't end up using the mechanics.

It looks like a good fit so far.  It's a well-established game that has run off and on for nearly a decade, so I'm starting them out with more aspects, skills and stunts than starting characters.  The players seem very satisfied with how well they're able to recreate the feel and abilities of their existing characters, though.
