This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Could have been a great game! If only...

Quote from: Caesar SlaadWait, was the point of this thread "your favorite game sux".

Cause that's how it's looking. Gave lots of folks with chips on their shoulder air time.

Not quite.

Exalted remains one of my favourite settings, and I respect those who can enjoy the system as written. I'll play it, but only under a different ruleset.

This is Lost Souls.
Previously known by the name of "GrimGent".

QuoteEverything about the game was a winner, at least at first. I think it failed when WEG tried to make it into a more serious game.

Oh, I've got no beef with Ghostbusters as a game...I've played the shit out of it, and it'll probably be the first rpg I try to teach my son to play. In keeping with the thread though, I think both games would have been great IF they hadn't been limited by their license.

Ghostbusters is mechanically way more solid as a lite-rpg than either Risus or Fudge, and takes all of 30 seconds to teach. I'd imagine it would still be in print if it had been called say....Call of Cthulhu or GURPS.

The James Bond RPG is a fantastic solo-playable rpg with fluid and simple mechanics and cinematic style to spare. Why did they have to waste that on a franchise that couldn't even allow them to use SPECTRE or film stills ? That's like a Star Trek game with some vaguely Mongolian-looking guys instead of Klingons. For a more recent example of just how crippling this can be, check out the Serenity RPG (based ONLY on the film...no TV stuff permitted). I have to wonder if the publishers signed the licensing contract BEFORE they found out about the restrictions, or are just plain stupid.

You can also come up with something that is not only original and creative and artistic, but also maybe even decent, or moral if I can use words like that, or something that\'s like basically good -Lester Bangs

I completely agree. Loved that game, my brother and I used to play it. Still wouldn't mind finding a copy of the Q Manual again just for old time's sake.

I found this used at my FLGS (for a really cheap price, too).  It's a fantastic game book and shows how with a bit of creativity you can bring fun to something as boring as an equipment list (which is basically what it is).  Each item has a paragraph of Q's personal musings on that item and each one is a little gem of Bondian coolness.  You can read the whole thing like a book.  Very impressive.

That's just how I remember it too. Used to sit and just read all the blurbs and comments, especially about the vehicles. Plus it made for great inspiration for my Top Secret games.

Yes, read about it in another thread, but haven't had a chance to look at it much yet.

Edit: Glad you reminded me about it, because although I had DLed the main doc, I apparently missed the bit about the Master Table being required for play, so just grabbed that now :) It's gonna hafta wait until I'm finished printing out and reading Miami Nights though... gotta get my Don Johnson groove on :)

You ARE the enemy. You are not from "our ranks". You never were. You and the filth that are like you have never had any sincere interest in doing right by this hobby. You\'re here to aggrandize your own undeserved egos, and you don\'t give a fuck if you destroy gaming to do it.
