This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

wait until SATURDAY?!

Beautifully, the guys at SJGames (makers of GURPS Traveller) didn't even know about this beforehand, judging from this.

I'm glad to see rpg designers continue the long tradition of being disorganised, thoughtless and unprofessional. It shows they're still gamers :p

Hehe, "based on". Two words that (may) hold the seeds of the bitter geekboy disappointment heading our way :deflated:

I predict the development of the Traveller equivalent of C&C then.

I am intrigued.

I was rather unimpressed with MRQ, especially the SRD they released, and by and large I've ben pretty hard on Mongoose in general for some damn piss-poor quality assurance processes.

But damnitalltohell, It's Traveller.  Classic Traveller at that, my new old favorite game in the whole wide world.  And under the OGL on top of that.

I'm excited about the idea. I also hope the quality control improves.

So is this definitely the Holy Grail they've been hyping?

If so, I'm sort of underwhelmed.  I guess it's good news for Traveler fans, but I don't think it's going to do much to bring anyone new into the industry.  Unless they hope to capitalize on the Firefly/Serenity crowd, but most people I know who liked that movie/show were also gamers anyway.

Ah well.

Quote from: jeff37923To the greatest extent possible, we intend that there be a transportability of characters, concepts, and even equipment between the various systems. So, it will be perfectly possible for your Strontium Dog Bounty Hunter to land on a planet in his Scout/Courier, only to find him battling for his life against waves of Warrior Bugs – with no conversion needed between the games!

QuoteFar Future is proceeding with plans to produce the long-heralded Traveller5, initially as an extensive CD ROM package (estimated at 1000 pages) by the end of 2007, and a distilled 350-page Traveller5 Core Rules book in the first half of 2008.

Soooo... on one hand we'll get CT Starship Troopers, and on the other we'll get T5 Spacemaster.

I declare the heat death of the universe.

No, as OHT pointed out, the HG is still in the works. (And I do believe it's post-4E D&D.)

OK, that's what I get for skimming.  Thanks.  D&D would be a major announcement, but my hope for a Hary Potter RPG remains alive.

My money is on Pendragon being the Holy Grail.

4e definitely has an Old School feel. If you disagree, cool. I won\'t throw any hyperbole out to prove the point.

Yeah, I'm not overly impressed or excited. Its not like Traveller isn't around already, what with it currently existing in TWO versions (GURPS and D20).
