This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

wait until SATURDAY?!

i'm sure we've discussed this before on this board.  from mongoose:

Mongoose Publishing is currently getting ready to make an announcement this
Saturday about a new RPG licence. Based on an extremely popular gaming IP,
this licence will herald a new system which will be utilised for many
different settings (much as RuneQuest has been used), and will feature Open
Content mechanics, allowing fans of the game to produce their own material.

Set for release in early 2008, this game will enjoy a superior level of
support, designed to draw gamers into a multitude of new worlds and
possibilities.

You can get the full scoop at our convention, Mongoose Hall 07 or, if
travelling to Swindon (in the UK) is difficult for you (!), on our forums
Saturday morning.

Going by the bad puns that seem to precede Matt's posts on the topic, I think a couple of the new products are going to be Pendragon and James Bond. But--that's just wordplay talkin'.
Employment Counselor: So what do you like to do outside of work?
Oblivious Gamer: I like to play games: wargames, role-playing games.
EC: My cousin killed himself because of role-playing games.
OG: Jesus, what was he playing? Rifts?

Ah, the late effects of the 3.5 fallout and the recent license issues. Is the d20 era over?

beeber

aw, PLEASE not another d20 thing!  :what:

Me, I hoping the new license is SpongeBob SquarePants d20.

Put me down for $5 on Halo.
I certainly wouldn't call Luke a vanity publisher, he's obviously worked very hard to promote BW, as have a handful of other guys from the Forge. -- The RPG Pundit

Well, Mongoose has a very prolific output, so just for their house systems this would probably be enough to unify things.
But it doesn't seem like they want to do that, as they still have d20 and RQ going on strong and it doesn't look like they're gonna drop that. No big news though, Mongoose has never shown a unified approach...

They got really burnt by the D&D 3 minor release, so I can definitely understand where they're coming from.

I would not like to see another "Tri-Stat dX-like" fiasco. :(

I don't think it's Harry Potter. The press release specifies a popular "gaming IP" - IE, something that's been used frequently for gaming in the past, and has been successful. The talk about Open Content and multiple worlds also makes me think we're looking at a system, not a setting.

What could it possibly be? ICE is doing fine with Rolemaster, Wizards wouldn't give D20 up to some third party gang, Hero Games seem to be healthy, Palladium's putting itself back together (and I can't ever envision Kevin handing his babies over to someone else).

Could it be Traveller?
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don\'t want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It\'s pretty chill so far.

Mongoose bought D&D.

That´s why WotC/Hasbro had to recollect all outlying licenses, to be able to sell the whole IP package.

Anything short of that wouldn´t be TEH HOLY GRAIL!1

If it is Traveller I will personally drive to Bloomington and throw a cream pie at Marc Miller's head.
