This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

VTTs

New member to the forum....the wokeness of 5e is ruining the overall experience, not to mention the furry playable races now, it has really gone downhill even more with the beholder's are just misunderstood. With that being said, I primarily play online, mostly due to streaming, and I have not found a VTT that supports any system other than 5e, which is depressing, and sadly, many of my players are fans of Critcal Role....

KingCheops

I'm guessing you mean non-woke VTT since Roll20 supports just about everything?

Caelryck

Correct, I 100% mean non-woke, I have been using Foundry and DnD Beyond with Beyond 20.

Dropbear

I hear ya.

I have issues with gaming with anyone online that I don't already know is not going to bring a political slant, or an increasingly endless parade of obscure furry character types, to the table.

And even more troubling, I was hired on as a GM at a local joint but I am hearing a lot of talk about diversity and inclusivity from the other staff that makes me very wary of running a table there. Due to the fact that it is a paid gig, I'm sure I will be expected to be sucking down a heaping helping of "diversity" because I'd be getting paid to do so. I'm just not so sure if I want to be lumped in on that ball of wax tbh. I don't personally care what anyone's politics might be outside of the game tables, but I don't want my games to focus on such politics at all. Just not interested.

Ghostmaker

Enforce Rule 0, ruthlessly. Make your table a no-politics zone.

Sensible players, regardless of politics, will adapt. Leftards will inevitably lose their spaghetti and you'll be justified in kicking them out.

S'mon

You can use Roll20 without giving them any money? Just be careful to keep your file sizes low so you stay under the storage limit.

Caelryck

Definitely cover this in session 0, absolutely no outside politics at my table....I also let them know if they want to play a kobold or whatever, they will not be welcome in any town...I actually cover this when interviewing players, I let them know upfront that stereotypes against orcs, drow, etc are very real in my world and I am not changing that to appease the CR crowd....my fear, in a few years, the online platforms that support VTTs will not have the resources available to allow DMs to say to hell with WotC and run it however they want...for instance, the recent removal of lore from Volo's to make even beholders "less problematic" was changed on DnD Beyond....if you don't have the physical copy, then you are out of luck...I try to support third party 5e content creators as much as possible for this reason, but there is not a lot of support for them in the VTTs as of yet, and even then, 5e source material is still needed to run campaigns online.

I've not seen anything overtly political from the guys behind Fantasy Grounds and when roll20 refused to work with that one group because they weren't diverse enough Fantasy Grounds stepped up. I don't remember all the details off hand but I'll look it up when I get home.

Is Foundry not a good option? I used it a few times as a player and it seemed great. I have no idea if they're hostile to regular slobs like me though.
The worms crawl in and the worms crawl out
The ones that crawl in are lean and thin
The ones that crawl out are fat and stout
Your eyes fall in and your teeth fall out
Your brains come tumbling down your snout
Be merry my friends
Be merry

Waitamint ... you get paid to play RPGs?  How on earth did you manage that?!

It's the only one I will continue to use. It's designed in such a way that its your own app that you host, so no threat of outside influences.

Ah here's a video from Taking20 talking about the issue with roll20 being woke/anti-white guy.

News flash Timmy. Theres all of maybee 4 beast folk races in 5e. All in the expansions. Tabaxi, maybe Minotaurs if you count the EE PDF, and... er... huh, thats it? Those rabbit folk in the latest module might count too though thats a module rather than a actual expansion.

3 beast folk races. Yep. D&D is ruined.

Oh, wait. BECMI had all manner of these things way back with the creature crucible. 2e had a bunch too.

I know some peeps involved in opening up a "gaming store". Said place has focused on providing gaming space for, rent and "professional GMs" rather than physical product. I'd be getting paid to run games.

With the recent addition of safe space terminology from many of the staff and heavy mention of LGBTQ+ inclusivity (and even mention of "no guys" games taking precedence) I'm becoming increasingly wary of it though. I am starting to feel that it's not a right fit for me. The talk is slanting heavily against anyone who wants to leave politics behind at the table.

I use Fantasy Grounds for my DCC campaign. However, I only use it to display maps and tokens, and other images. I roll physical dice (combat and non-combat). My players have the option of rolling physical dice* or they can use the FG dice roller. Some players have also implemented their PC into its character sheet such that the dice roll automatically adds mods and looks up results on tables.

I purchased a FGU Ultimate license. Over the ~2 years we have being playing online, that runs to ~$7/month. I also had to purchase the FGU DCC rules set (think I paid $20 for it).

YMMV.

*I play with friends, all of whom are stand-up guys. This might not work if you are playing with randos.
