This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Who Wants To Make A PDF?

Over at the Runequest SRD thread, I noticed that there were quite a lot of you guys who were skilled at the making of PDFs.

So here's my question: is there any valiant Proxy out there who would be interested in making the PDF for the english-language version of "Forward... To Adventure!"?

For those who don't know, FtA! is my very own RPG, one that came to me in a dream and that I designed for the latin american market.  The spanish language version is still in the translation process, but since I've got the rules basically written up in English, it could be good if someone were to want to set them up as a PDF.

What you'd need to be able to do:

1. Make a decent, professional-quality PDF, with illustrations, etc.
2. Figure out a place to sell said PDF for a reasonable fee.
3. Profit! We split the proceeds.

So, who out there in RPGsiteland is bold enough to publish the Pundit's game?

hhhmmmmm!:ponder:

Sounds interesting. What is the theme? Or is it a stand alone rule set?

the theme is the biggest thing as far as the cost of art goes. If it is historical or fantasy you can keep art on the cheap and use clipart. It will still look nice. If it is sci-fi you could end up racking up high art costs.

RPGPundit

Forward... to Adventure! is a very classic style of basic fantasy game. Its designed to be a game you can pick up and play very quickly, make characters in minutes, get into the dungeon or wilderness and go!
Its traditional fantasy, basically, and it has no built-in world/setting, only a kind of flavour to it (which I'd describe as conan/Elricesque; it would work really well in settings like the Wilderlands, the Fighting Fantasy world (Titan), or Lankhmar).

Sounds cool. How many pages is it in the current format?

It seems that this game would relatively short, not to flashy looking, and be alight read. If so this seems to be the type of thing most anyone with a PDF editor could slap together for about $8 (including art). Get a membership to Clipart.com and get all the art you need lay it out and sell it through RPGnow.

EDIT: I should also mention that there are many games like this for free, so sales on such a product would likely be low. Of course I have not seen it yet, so that opinion could change.

Well no; Settembrini made up a faux-cover for the game, but as far as I know its a copyrighted image that we almost certainly wouldn't be able to use if we made a real PDF.

The total pagecount is 105 pages, as a Word document.  It is, in its current format, a complete RPG.

I wouldn't expect the game to be priced at a very high margin, but given that a lot of people took interest in the process by which the game was designed, I could imagine that a PDF would have some decent sales.

Anyways, the reason I'm looking for a partner to do this with is that I'm just too lazy and too technically inept to put together a PDF myself, much less to sell one. So this is a good opportunity for someone who wants to make a bit (probably a very little bit) of cash and promote the RPGPundit's game.

And um.. which people would those be? The way you phrased it you made it sound a bit like it would be the Vescotti brothers, their uncle Vito and the Capo.

You've heard of them, then?  :)

No, seriously, I know some people who are working on a startup company to sell PDF products.  They're polishing off a few of their own right now, but they probably won't be ready "for primetime" until next year or so.  They might jump at the chance to "get on the map" with something sooner.

I'll be seeing them this weekend and mention the idea and point them to you, if you'd like.  :)

Sure, mention it to them... but what the fuck makes one need to wait a year before they're ready to release PDFs? Or is it that they're actually still working on the game itself?

In any case, its going to pretty well be first come, first serve, in the sense that the first guy who I feel can decently draw up the PDF and sell it is the one I'll be giving this to.

So hurry on up, guys!

That's my understanding, yes.  I believe they said something about releasing several games simultaneously.  I know they are still developing because this coming weekend is supposed to be a final playtest on one setting and an initial playtest in another.

Sounds fair to me.  Do you have anything I could show them on the setting this weekend?  It would probably be easier to say, "This is something you might want to look at..." than "Hey, I talked to this dude on an internet forum..." ;)

Maybe explain to them who I am? The fact that I regularly have over a thousand readers a day on my blog?
Explain the basic premise of the game (a quick-pick-up old-school fantasy game that came to me in a dream)?

I got nothin...
