Is anyone backing the Unbound RPG?
I just saw it today (its got 20 hours left) and the pitch is enthusiastic and the art style is interesting, but I don't know WTF kind of game this is.
Anybody know?

Reeks of Swine Sauce dipped in fluffy ephemeral MANIC navel-gazing jibber-jabber. Likely unplayable unless you have prior experience as a prison guidance councilor post drug-recovery program.
The artwork is cool.
It sounds like it is focused on focused focusing, though it could use some more focus.
The last bits said they wanted to focus on gender equality which tells me that quality of the game is shit. Now that could just be the art, but it could be more. Also shortening the game length is a shitty idea.
Edit: That said the only redeeming quality it has is the art.
"You make the world when you make the characters."
Narrative Shitshow.
Lol. One of the most hilarious LS pitches I've seen. A pity they show so little of the actual mechanics.
Great pitch, beautiful art, never heard about the creators. It does sound vaguely storygamey, which might be a dealbreaker to me. I'll sit this one out and keep an eye out for reviews and buzz.

Here's actual play:

Damn, I'm conflicted.
It's got plenty of swine stink on it, but there's so much enthusiasm in the presentation and great sounding stuff in the actual play.
I've done shared world creation in the past and I don't love it or hate it. I get the sense this is some kind of hybrid RPG. In play, it sounds less "storygamey" as the players get to describe their own actions, but not the GM's actions.
Hmm...$44k for a KS is no joke. It's about what Godbound did. It will be interesting to see which RPG is being talked about in 2017.

Purple will be jizzing themselves over this. Godbound players will be too busy playing it to post anything. :D

As the players are just as responsible for creating the world as the GM, we've established a tone of shared narrative responsibility – players don't just sit back and let plot happen to them! Our advancement system is tied to fates – events, challenges and troubles bound to each character, generated both by their own player and the group. Players are rewarded for taking initiative, performing for the group, and leading their character into dangerous situations.
The plot of the adventure is generated by the group, too, again through the questions tied to character choices. GMs can sketch out the arc of a story with help from the players in minutes.:hmm:
While I see absolutely nothing wrong in players attempting to flesh-out the world a bit by adding some input, filling some gaps, asking to change some elements in such a way that they are more relevant to their characters' background, but not enough to steal the driving wheel from GM's hands, I'm becoming a bit suspicious about a game that seems to
rely on this concept.
I mean, this calls for a specific breed of players - people who are vocal and passionate about, ummmm,
the shell, as much as they are about the core (the gaming process) itself.
Godbound might end as one of these games people appraise, but rarely play...

I've already scheduled my first session. :D
Someone should start advertising a garden equipment store here, because the pitchforks would sure fly off the shelves.
Looks like a Microscope clone to me so far, except more focused on creating the world than RPing within it, rather than roleplaying and creating the world's history.
Sounds like the card game War with an array of four stats to boost your drawn card versus the "GM's" card. That with character-driven world creation sounds like an exercise in rampant justfication and tedium. Pass.
The selling point of picaresques was rather funny. "We got your picaresques here, we got 'em all! Sunday, saunday, sunday!"

Well, there's not much that can be done about cake, but I think I've found a way to make sad bear happy.

Ahem, back to the thread, I guess. ;)

It's got that hybrid feel and you'd need very engaged players who can work well / compromise together - yet still be okay with the GM at the helm for the gameplay which is anti-storygame.
I'd give it a whirl with the right group of trad players.

You nailed it. The mechanics are War. I am unsure if that's a bad thing though. Its as simple as a mechanic as it gets. Perhaps too simple?

Whoa! You think it's possible to convince traditional gamers to play Unbound?
What argument would you use to attract their attention? Unless, of course, you have at your disposal a band of faithful companions who don't mind trying new things (in which case I envy you more than you think).
Quote from: JesterRaiin;893354Whoa! You think it's possible to convince traditional gamers to play Unbound?
I got them to play 4e! :)
Which is only partially a joke. If you read the actual play, it appears Unbound uses 4e skill challenge mechanic.
Unless I read Unbound, I can't really tell what's the ratio of Trad vs. Shitshow in the game. Right now, I think its a hybrid, but I may be very wrong.
Of course, in my hands, it may become more Trad by the nature of how I run games.

I have a local reputation as a GM so friends will bring their friends when I announce something because whatever I run will probably be fun.
So if I got the game, read it and was still enthused, the argument would be - let's try this new cooperative creation RPG for a handful of sessions. It's gonna be pulp, its about cool heroes doing cool stunts and its going to involve more player input than my other games.
Based on that, half of my regulars may be okay with it, in a WTF, let's try it kinda of way like going to an Vegan BBQ.
Unbound: the Vegan BBQ RPG!

Sir, have you ever considered a career in marketing, advertising... Or at least diplomacy and foreign politics? We seem to have a problem with certain Middle Eastern conflict and we could use help... ;)

Campaign's title:
A Cat, a Spinach and an Unbound. :D
Jokes aside, I'm not sure whether you counted on that, but I find it quite intriguing and worthy of further analysis: whether running certain games determines GMs' style and their mindset, to what extent, and how hard it is to put it aside and approach new game with fresh mind...
Dammit. Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit behavioral psychology... :duh:

Start a new thread about that. I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on your hypothesis too.
Meanwhile, I'll be here sniffing glue.
I got to the gender and body stuff and tuned out.
