This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Two days left for Far West?

I know there's probably a few folks who are salty about this subject and for that I apologize but I'm genuinely curious as the concept behind this game seemed interesting. Last I read in February, it was supposed to be released by the end of the year?

Two days left, has there been any update on that anywhere?

HappyDaze

Did they specify which year, on which calendar?

From earlier this year:

Commenter on Far West website: "Will you commit to releasing the pdf to backers, in whatever state of completion it may happen to be, before the end of 2021?"

Gareth: "Yes, without hesitation."

From a more recent blog post:
http://gmskarka.com/2021/12/23/another-year-that-wasnt/
Quote"I've been suffering from stress-nightmares and panic attacks, mostly centered around not having Far West fully completed and out the door — outside events have accumulated to prevent me from reaching my own self-imposed deadline of the year's end, set at the beginning of this year. I try to console myself by the realization that it is, at most, delayed by a month or so — but my brain won't relent (with a 'helpful' assist by the hate mail that I receive weekly). "
So, definitely and without hesitation 'Next Year!'

Have the stars in the sky all vanished or gone out? No?

Then no Far West for you.

Maybe merge with this thread?
https://www.therpgsite.com/pen-paper-roleplaying-games-rpgs-discussion/has-it-really-been-seven-years-since-far-west-was-funded/
Or risk winding up with more FW threads than FW has finished chapters.

Edit: no ambition to become a backseat mod  ;)
I just suggested, in this 'final' stretch, having all reactions in one place.

We can start a new thread for the Reviews, once they start coming in.

I think they should be merged but I'm not backseat modding.

Regardless, this thread and the previous thread have a higher word-count than The Far West, currently.

Have any of the backers asked Gareth to just make whatever he may have done for Far West into public domain so others could run with the idea and - gasp - maybe finish it?

Far West is legendary for hitting 10 years of failure, but the Yarr! RPG is about to hit 5 years of failure to deliver which is impressive because apparently Yarr! was already a finished RPG and the KS was just for a polished, expanded hardcover.

I wonder how many other RPGs on KS have achieved 5 year pins? Any others competing with Far West for the title of King Failure?

Jesus he allways uses this excuse. One of these days hes going to have something real happen and no one will ever believe him because hes cried wolf for so many years.

I have a question: do you guys think that "Kickstarter creator" is the most dangerous profession on the planet?

I mean, it has to outstrip active-combat military, firefighters, sanitation workers. And by a lot. Especially "woke Kickstarter creator."

I mean, the sheer number of health problems that afflict these individuals is staggering. I can't tell you the number of Kickstarter creators I've seen who immediately start struggling hard with sickness, physical ailments, serious mental health issues, and even personal tragedies 18-24 months after they acquired tens of thousands of dollars of other people's money. It can't just be a coincidence. Maybe Kickstarter should put out some kind of health advisory?

Batjon

I've noticed the same thing.  They seem to be dropping like flies after getting paid.  It is a good thing they have our $$ to purchase healthcare once these ailments hit.

I suppose the only reason Adamant isn't on Ocule's Woke List yet, is because in order to make the list you have to published something in the past 10 years.

Almost_Useless

Oh, he's been publishing.  I know he did one thing for ICONS and some Savage Worlds stuff.  He just hasn't done Far West.

Yes it is odd that he's been able to write a half-million tweets and work on 4 other RPGs but his Fibromyalgia, PTSD, Panic Attacks, toxoplasmosis, rheumatism, grippe, colic, schizophrenia, fear of helicopters, and frequent near-death experiences have prevented him doing what he took $48,000 of people's money to do.
