This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I am not sure if there are any T&T players around here, but I think I recall a few people mentioning it before, so I thought those people might be interested in hearing this news.

The "Rebuilding EN World" (because a hacker attacked their system) Kickstarter just added this goal:

The fine folk over at Flying Buffalo do, too (and boy, they really know how to run a good Kickstarter!)...very kindly offered an OSR gem - a scanned and cleaned up PDF of the 1977 4th Edition of TUNNELS & TROLLS.  That classic RPG will be available for free to all £25+ PDF backers.

That level of contribution also gets you these PDFs:

1) FAFNIR's TREASURE PDF (a standalone Vikng RPG);
2) TOURNAMENTS, FAIRS, & TAVERNS for the Pathfinder RPG [BRAND NEW!];
3) Admiral o' The High Seas for Pathfinder and D&D 4th Edition;
4) War of the Burning Sky 700-page compiled for D&D 3.5;
5) Five ZEITGEIST adventure path adventures for Pathfinder or 4E (your choice);
6) What's the Pirate Ship Like, Anyway? from Raging Swan Press;
7) Villainous Pirates from Raging Swan Press;
8) Wild Spellcraft for the Pathfinder RPG [BRAND NEW!];
9) The Town of Kalas and the Castles & Crusades Quickstart Rules from Troll Lord Games;
10) Plus the Borderland Keep Deluxe 3D paper terrain models from Fat Dragon Games;
11) A0: Crows Nest Island from Adventureaweek.com;
12) Plus the Darklight 4E Bundle - adventures, maps, and a sourcebook;
13) Plus the Savage Mojo bundle - an adventure, and the largest PDF set of map tiles ever in the form of The Leviathan;
14) PLUS -- the O.G.R.E. mobile app, which EVERY backer will get;
15) And as mentioned, 1997 4th Edition of TUNNELS & TROLLS

Whoops, corrected, thanks for the heads up.

I never played.  Is it a good game?

see, that is the meat of it.

It's fast and fun as hell.
but it is broken, also.  Not a real game for campaigns, since as players get more powerful, they very quickly outclass others.  And the early missle system was deplorable.

but I could roll up a group of 3 PCs in 15 minutes, no lie.  I amde a lot of houserule systems, like adding engineers and adding defensive adds, which prolonged the games.

Any site that has mods who win arguments by stealth banning you from the thread so all anyone sees is you supposedly walking away, and that behavior is common enough that just by describing the behavior people can tell which mods you mean, doesn't deserve to be considered a serious and worthy site for discussing anything.

Say what you like about the mods here, stealth ain't their style.
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Any thoughts on T&T? Have you played? If so, did you like it? If you have not played, any particular reason why not?

For those curious, that T&T goal funded, and they moved on to a final goal related to a 1200 page adventure for Pathfinder (800 pages in a smaller font).

I want to get more into Tunnels and Trolls. I've picked up the... nice 5th edition rules, and liked that, and got the 7th edition rules and liked it but not as nicely as the 5th.  I've got some of the fanzines (which have been free, some of them) and some adventures and... haven't really gone anywhere with them.

I probably need to do a google or irc game and just walk the game around a bit. Part of the reason I picked it up was because I thought I'd get into some solo gaming because it would be easier than getting a group together, but I haven't had time for the solo gaming either. :)

But I kicked in on the T&T fundraiser.  I haven't bothered to kick in on the enWorld one because I've already got a pile of pdfs I haven't read, and they've already blew past their goals, so they should have plenty for what they need to do.

I do need to mention it was my second game.  Melee was first, with Wizard, and TFT, but that was in the old days with it being more of a combat thing, T&T was my first proper RPG.

SO I have a soft spot.

Quote from: Mistwell;627696Any thoughts on T&T?
It's the first rule-light system (specifically designed to be lighter then D&D for example).  Combat is quick and clunky at the same time.  Take all of the dice everyone has to roll in combat on a side and roll them all at the same time, compare it to the other side and then allocate the damage.  It leads to titanic amounts of d6.  If T&T was as popular as D&D, Congress would have investigated them for collusion with dice manufacturers.  It's really the first example of Conflict Resolution - roll all the dice first then figure out what happened.  IIRC, the one who takes the wounds gets to pick where they go, so you can have the meatshield suck up the most wounds.  People houseruled this immediately, like they did with everything back then, so you had all different kind of variants you heard about.I've seen people split out the combat rolls which leads to more of a task-resolution experience for example.

Quote from: Mistwell;627696Have you played?
Played the hell out of the Fantasy books.  Little bit of the actual game here and there, an old military friend liked it and would break it out when he was on leave.

Quote from: Mistwell;627696If so, did you like it?
It certainly was fast and to the point, definitely a non-wargame based RPG.

Quote from: Mistwell;627696If you have not played, any particular reason why not?
It was hard to play any of the early "not D&D's" because they were not "D&D', so were less tables running it.  I think California was a little better in that regard.
