This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Stuart;276719My favourite thing about the original MSH was the format for introducing new (+ young) players to the game. Very accessible and presented the game in a more fun + thematic way than a lot of RPGs do.

i agree. kids easily "get" the game coz it IS the marvel universe.

btw, i got msh pdfs from classicmarvel.com. is this ok? who owns the licence or are they "public domain" already or what? i'm confused.

I have a crazy amount of MSH stuff. I got a stack of modules my old gaming store had in the discount bin. I think I have about 90% of the old content. :)

Did anyone get the old MSH-WW2 adventure that was published in Dragon?  Those characters were all significantly less powerful than the typical Marvel universe heroes + villains.

I'm not sure. I've heard that WOTC/TSR has been made aware of such sites, but have not done anything about it. (At least as of yet.)

Someone once through a fit over Star Frontiers being done in a similar, way--yet the Starfrontiers.com site owner had actually obtained permission from someone in the offices of WOTC/TSR. It was later mentioned that permission they were given was not from the person in needed to be, but after that permissions was maintained to do so. It is likely that licensing issues, and general lack of interest in maintaining a license  you can't repackage without the other material owners negotiations (The Marvel Universe), that this is as legitimate as we'll ever see it be "released."

Returning to my character from before (to conserve space)

Resources: 62  Good (increase one rank from Typical to Good)

Talents: 35 3/4

66 Scientific Skills: 10 Electronics
75 Scientific Skills: 9  Physics (I chose this over computers)
33 Fighting Skills: 8 Tumbling

I'll not bother with contacts, as that is usually underused in my games. (I like them but most other Gm's don't bother.)

Since we were talking of Marvel, I carried my books with me last night to my friends New Year get together.  We hung out, talked played some COH, then rolled up Marvel characters and had a silly short adventure. Beginning with "Loki Sucks" (This was how I began the Marvel game "Spider-Guys", ages ago for two of my friends.) Loki took offense and transported them to the Marvel Univers whereupon a kindly benefactor gave them powers to survive Loki's malign intents. Another friend repeated the phrase, and this began our new game. Powers were randomly rolled, as were stats, resources and the like. Everyone had fun--even the young lady who had only played WOW, and only had passing connection to RPG's at all.

They want me to continue the game. Bwahaha!

I played MSH advanced almost exclusively for 4 years, and we ALWAYS created our own characters.  The most fun we had with MSH was rolling up all kinds of odd-ball characters with the Ultimate Powers Book.  We played and played the guts out of that system, until one of the group went to high school (the rest of us were a year behind) and he got us on TMNT, the 1st edition of that game.  Then we had even MORE fun with the random/point buy mish mash in that game, making necrophilac psychotic assassin hamsters and hypochondriac passive aggressive bipolar ninja hawks.

Once I reached high school and fell in with the gaming crew, and got exposed to Cyberpunk 2020, AD&D, and Vampire, my future life was set.

We tried recently to go back, and the system just doesn't cut it for me now.  Sometimes you can never go back.  God but I loved playing that game.
