This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

True20: What Settings Would Be A Nice Fit?

Quote from: RPGPunditI see. And "Roma Imperious" means?

RPGPundit
Much like Unearthed Arcana it is two words from different languages. Roma is a Italian-Latin cognate while Imperious is english. Imperious does nto translate well into Latin. I wanted to convey several thoughts with the title like alternate Roman history, romanesque fantasy and convey these ideas in an attractive phrase. I could have called in Rome Imperious but I honestly do not think it as attractive. Roma Imperious just flows better. Roma Imperiosa but I did not like the way it sounded. So far, by people who have read the book, I have only had one complaint on with my use of the Genitive case and even the person who brought the point admited it was arguable.

So, what it means is:
Roma - Rome
Imperious - Haughty or domineering manner

I took a bit of poetic license with the word order but it has not caused any confusion yet.

Hopefully that was clear.

LOL!:tears:

sidenote: why do people always go on about proper language/titles without even knowing the intent of the title in the first place? It bugs me a bit but even more so when speaking about an ALTERNATE HISTORY RPG. Caps for emphasis on what we are talking about here. Alternate History. Role-playing. Game.

:D I hope not. I have had this discussion to a rediculous length over on RPG.Net. To sum up...

Poster: You Latin is wrong and you smell funny.
Me: It isn't Latin
Poster: But the Latin is wrong and you are trying to get out of admitting a mistake! Admit it! Your Latin suxxors!
Me: A bene placito
Poster: Are you calling me names! BTW - Roma Imperiosus would be a better title.
Me: Roma Imperiosa, you have the gender wrong.
Poster: Thats what I said, your title is wrong.
Me: hmm, The title is not in Latin though....
Repeat for about 200 posts...

Hopefully we do not have to go there.;)

I'd like to see a True20 version of Rifts, if only so I could see KS cast "Summon Lawyers".

No, as long as you're making no claim that it is correct latin, the way White Wolf tried to do with "Lancea Sanctum", I don't have any problem with it at all.   Other than the fact that it still just doesn't sound right to me, but I'm willing to accept that its a question of taste.

No problems then. I had playtesters bemoaning it as well. I can be stubborn sometimes. ;)

Ringworld.

Right now I'm using true20 for a pulp campaign (think Sky Captain meets Terry and the Pirates meets CoC meets Dashel Hammett) and it is a perfect fit. Aside from straight up supers I'd use it for just about anything.

I know there's Pendragon, but what about an Arthurian setting?

You know, Ringword would be a great setting in many systems but I think it might be a bit too down to earth for True 20. It wasn't realy an epic setting. I am very willing to be convinced otherwise though. :)

Abyssal Maw

I kinda have an urge to do a 'secret magical society' RPG (ala Hogwarts) using True20.
Download Secret Santicore! (10MB). I painted the cover :)

I could dig that, if done properly.

Well I'm not much of a salesman :) but... Not epic? There are islands that are the size of entire worlds, vampires, protectors, billions of crazy aliens, all kinds of crazy technology, floating cities, million year old alien master plans... Just a journey from a crash site to the Rim wall is an epic! And if it is a bit gritty, I think the leathality of true20 combat could handle that too.

when I read the minion rules one of the first things I thought about was speaker to animals hosing vampires with a flashlight laser.

But I also think True20 is fine for "down to Earth stuff" as well.

disclaimer:  I am a giant fucktard.

I guess what I meant by epic was that Louis Wu, Chmee various extras do not take damage in a casual manner. I think you would need to up the lethality or the way damage is treated to make it fit well. Much of the story revolves around dealing with damage and the effects of it.

Now, the autodocs and nifty medicine help but Chmee was sidelined for several chapters while he recovered from bad burns. The puppeteer lost a head and even Louis took some nasty knocks. Another point would be the specific areas of damage;i.e. the puppeteer loosing its head.

Again, just my opinion.

I'd like to see Tamora Pierce's Tortall setting.  It fits extremely well with the Blue Rose material and the magic.  However, I think True20 needs some tweaks to support children as characters.
