This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Or was your friend's investment bank a client of Hasbro where they were able to get this type of inside information, that the analysts on the brokerage side of the bank were shielded away from (via a Chinese Wall)?

I misspoke, I should have said that the way he talked about them they seemed as if they were recent, but thinking back on it I can't be sure when the calls happened.   It's not like he gave me a time or date.

All he said is he was on a call with them and someone said something about Hasbro being sick of WOTC losing them money.  It was a comment in passing and I can't honestly pin a time and date.

Maybe Mistwell's information is more recent then mine and maybe things have changed.  But then WOTC has been ramping up on money money lines and products so maybe they are now doing well and Hasbro isn't as worried about them.

Dude, just pick up the phone and give him a call and get the details.

Hopefully your investment banking friend also isn't a lawyer by training with a law license.  Revealing such privileged insider information can be grounds for disbarment.

Quote from: ggroy;339838Passing on tradeable insider information is technically illegal.  Hopefully none of you guys used that information for buying or selling Hasbro stock.

No, he didnt buy stock.  He is smarter then that and wouldnt do something so dumb and risky.

His job is risky enough just doing what he does.

Just give him a call, man, and post here what he says.

The Gamer Guy is either himself now participating in the passing on of insider information, or he is passing on a false rumor (though he may not know it is a false rumor).

One of those will get you in serious trouble, and the other will simply get you shit from some guys on a message board.

Actually technically passing on a false rumor about the financial struggles of a public company can itself get you in trouble, but I think in this context it's not very meaningful.

On the other hand, his friend is in trouble either way.  If he is a licensed investment banker, then he either:

1) disclosed insider information, which will get him in serious trouble, or
2) made up a false rumor about the finances of a public company and passed it on, which will also get him in serious trouble as an investment banker.

So, The Gamer Guy, here is your opportunity to back peddle, before this thread gets indexed by Google and your information starts leaking out for searches on Hasbro (HAS) stock and their recent quarterly report.

With everything mentioned, it sounds like the information your friend has may be on the investment banking side.  It doesn't sound like information that a stock analyst on the brokerage side of the bank would normally have.

It's not information an investment banker should have either.  And certainly not something he would/should be telling his friend.

Well, this exchange certainly explains this tidbit from the WEG forums:

Quote....I decided to cancel D6 Radio, due to ratings and due to Game Guy's name tainting it. I guess I didnt realize how many people truely disliked GG, and when I tried to promote the new show with new host I got nothing.... no response anywhere. I looked at the ratings, and the show never went over 25 listeners and canceled it.

Also, I hate to admit it, but Mistwell's first, and rather detailed post was pretty much the first though that came to my mind as well, namely "Didn't we do this thread already?"  I actually thought it was a necro when it showed up in unread posts.
Bedroom Wall Press - Games that make you feel like a kid again.

Arcana Rising - An Urban Fantasy Roleplaying Game, powered by Hulks and Horrors.

Yeah, I do have a shiot memory, as Mistwell said.  If I could have said in the first post "Look, 2 times in a row and no mention!" I would have.  I just didn't rememeber from last time it.

I blame it on Mad Cow Disease.

After consideration of what has been said and since I wasn't there and can't verify the information, I have removed the posts.  I don't believe anything was told to me that was illegal, but since people do bring up good points, it's best to go with what Mistwell has posted as being total fact (coming from WOTC'S Site) and being the best information on the current state of WOTC.

Actually, I quit the show prior to his canceling the show (he got a new host and the show never got off the ground again).

It was a bad idea from the start and even Eric Gibson (owner of WEG) said there wasn't enough to talk about to have a show that ran weekly (or even sub weekly).

He just has sour grapes because the show was a failure I decided to leave.  He had someone else who was going to take over for me, he just couldnt get it going.

I don't care as I am no longer WEG's #1 cheerleader anymore.  I sold the site to someone else and do not go to the website any longer.  There are a few reasons why I sold the site, burn out being ones but there are bigger issues as well.

These issues I wont mention because I am still friends with Eric Gibson and I don't want to say something that would ruin said friendship.

I find it heart warming that people remember (to remind others of) the values of intellectual decency, honesty and responsibility for their own posting when the subject is as touchy as circulating disclosed information. God forbid that we'd stick to these values when there are no legal threats involved.

It seems fairly clear that the lack of mention of WotC means this portion of Hasbro is either not material to the investment community or Hasbro doesn't believe it is or will be, otherwise it would be covered.  Rather than a call which can only cover so much, look at the Q or a K to get a better idea of were WotC falls in the grand scheme of things at Hasbro.
