This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

As best as I can tell, by doing a word find there is not mention of D&D, MtG, Pokemon, WOTC, or any other product WOTC puts out.  Not even mention of the digital initiative stuff, which was the only thing of WOTC's even touched upon in recent calls.  This may be a first in the couple years I have been following these things.

Wasn't WotC's mention in the past almost literally a footnote?

How can anyone tell how important wizards are to Hasbro?

How common are there "no mentions" for other Hasbro divisions?

Quite a few hasbro properties out there. I don't have time to compare to the quarterly, unfortunately (at least not at work).

Joe, you have a shit memory then.

Here is your last post on this topic, from this board, from the Q2:

Quote from: Joethelawyer;315163WOTC is not mentioned once.  In the few years I've been reading these things, I believe this is the first time WOTC is not mentioned in any way at all--not even Pokemon or MtG got a mention, no less the Digital Initiative they touted so heavily in the latest few calls.

http://seekingalpha.com/article/149931-hasbro-q2-2009-earnings-call-transcript

So OMG WTF First time EVAR they don't mentioned WOTC since....last report?

Here is your comment from Q4 2008, where you again emphasize a lack of WOTC mention other than one small mention:

Quote from: joethelawyer;4663183it appears that there is no meaningful mention of anything wotc or d&d anywhere in there, other than to mention the investment in the digital initiative.

transcript is here

http://seekingalpha.com/article/119418-hasbro-inc-q4-2008-earnings-call-transcript?source=yahoo

And your Q3 2008 comment

Quote from: joethelawyer;4517232Well, i actually listened to thing thing.  boring as hell.

As far as i can tell, and whoever else listened correct me if i am wrong, they mentioned WOTC once in the call.  they said the duelmasters card game is doing well in japan.

they mentioned the digital initiative---this is pretty close to a quote:

"this quarter we continued to invest in digital strategy including wotc initiative and building relationship with electronic arts."

and a few sentences later, again, pretty close to a quote:

"some of the digital initiatives will continue throughout the year."

it seemed the electronic arts relationship is based around their other games though, they mentioned the website Pogo Games | Play Card Games, Board Games, and other Free Online Games as an example of what the relationship producing.

And your comments from Q2 2008:

Quote from: joethelawyer;4402285to respond to my own post, i thought it was interesting that they only mentioned wotc in passing.  this is 2 months after 4e released.  this was a huge meeting with all the big wall street firms. this is where you toot your own horn loudly.  if 4e really did well they would have been talking about it here.

So as anyone can see, what you do every fucking time is emphasize how little they say about WOTC, and then you try and make that seem significant.  EVERY FUCKING TIME.

After this long, you'd think you'd finally come to the other possible conclusion - that WOTC simply isn't an important aspect of Hasbro in general, and it is par for the course for Hasbro to ignore WOTC in their quarterly reports, and there is nothing one can read into that because that's essentially what they've always done.

But no, instead I feel pretty confident in saying that the next quarterly report from Hasbro will mostly or entirely ignore WOTC, and you will again post about how you think that is significant.

ggroy

Hasbro is actually run by Osama Bin Laden.

So I was right then, except this is the second time in a row they never mentioned WOTC or any of their products or the digital initiative at all?

This is actually not true.  My friend works as an investment banker and he has been on a Hasbro conference call.  He told me that WOTC was discussed and in fact Hasbro is sick and tired of the money that WOTC is loosing from them.

This is just me, but I wouldnt be surprised if Hasbro sells whatever properties they can for as much as they can and then shuts down WOTC.

Actually, if you look at the way WOTC is changing things (Such as dumping the OGL, the digital initiative, etc) it looks like they are working on ways to make as much money as possible.  I wouldnt doubt it is pressure coming from Hasbro.

How long ago were these particular conference calls, that your investment banking friend was on?

Or have these more recent conference call transcripts Joe has been posting, been heavily edited?
