This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: ggroy;339810How long ago were these particular conference calls, that your investment banking friend was on?

Or have these more recent conference call transcripts Joe has been posting, been heavily edited?

I don't edit anything, I just post a link, which appears to be a verbatim complete transcript.  In any case, you can go to the Hasbro web page and listen to them all via recording if you like.  Compare the two.  I actually listened to one once, it was boring as shit.

I didn't think Joe was editing the transcript.  I was thinking of something more along the lines of the recording being edited by Hasbro, to take out stuff they didn't want anybody hearing.  I suppose there's no easy way to check whether any editing was done, if one was not on the original conference call or have an independent recording of it.

I still have access to databases that carry a complete transcript, used by investors, so it has to be complete.  It takes a couple days to make it there, so this weekend someone remind me to do a search for it, and i'll do the same word search for key words that i did on the one linked to above.

Quote from: The Game Guy;339808This is actually not true.  My friend works as an investment banker and he has been on a Hasbro conference call.  He told me that WOTC was discussed and in fact Hasbro is sick and tired of the money that WOTC is loosing from them.

Your friend is lying to you.  WOTC was not mentioned.  And they definitely would never say they are sick and tired of WOTC losing money, and never have said anything like that.

There is no editing.  It's a public company, reporting a public quarter, with a public conference call, under federal statutory rules.  And I am listening to most of their public calls.  As Joe says, it's boring as watching grass grow, and WOTC is not mentioned.

Even when WOTC is mentioned in past calls, it's at best a side note.

The Game Guy's friend is making shit up, or he is making shit up.  It's as simple as that.

Maybe this was some investment banker who had some inside information, from some "off the cuff" conversations with lower level Hasbro executives over dinner or coffee?

They were recent and they may not be the same calls Joe was on.  I wasn't there but also I know my friend and I don't believe he was lying to me.

I am taking his word at face value.   And he likes D&D and doesn't have anything against WOTC so I don't think there is anything he would gain about lying about it.

In official corporate press releases and announcements, rarely ever hear them using words or expressions like:  "sick and tired", sucks, etc ...

The language used is typically formal and neutral.

First he isn't lying to me.  Why would he? What would he have to gain from it?  He likes D&D (we are in a D&D game together) and likes WOTC so I don't see what there is gain from it.

Two, it could have been a different call then the one you were on.  I have no doubt that WOTC is a money loser for Hasbro.

Is it possible your friend is the recipient of insider information?

Could be.  I don't know as I said, I wasn't there.  We are both in two game groups and he has told people in both groups about it.

If WOTC is a money loser (and I think most game companies are these days as the industry has gone to shit) I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted to get rid of WOTC.   Hasbro didnt get as huge as it is by keeping money losers.

Again, this is information passed to me from someone else who I trust, but again it's third hand, so who knows.   I do trust the guy and I don't see what he could gain from lying.  Could he be lying?  While I doubt it I can't rule it out either.

Doesn't regulation FD forbid something like this?

Or was your friend's investment bank a client of Hasbro where they were able to get this type of inside information, that the analysts on the brokerage side of the bank were shielded away from (via a Chinese Wall)?

Passing on tradeable insider information is technically illegal.  Hopefully none of you guys used that information for buying or selling Hasbro stock.
