This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Dig.  It's probably old news to most of you, and I've known about it for a while, but I've been poking at it for the last couple'a days, here, 'cause it's fun.

Oh, you don't know what it is?  It is

Quote[A] minimalist role-playing game designed to be usable with the majority of d20 supplements, rules and adventures with little or no advance preparation. The rules for character generation, combat, magic and level advancement take up a single sheet of paper, meaning it is perfect for introducing role-playing to new players, gaming one-shot adventures or tailoring into your own game system.

I can write up, say, a 9th-level rogue in...umn...a couple of minutes.  Nice.

Only one problem.  There's an option for Skills and Feats by one Bert the Ogre, and...umn...I think it's broken.  Like, parts of it don't make sense.

Mebbe someone else can look at it and tell me if I'm just stoopid in the head?

It showed up when I was compiling the Top Ten lists.  I wondered what it is.

It seems like a neat project, it reminded me of Damn Small Linux, but what can Microlite20 give me that Castles & Crusades cannot?

Plus, it's easier on the wallet.  Hell, you can put it in your wallet.

Interesting!  And here I just bought C&C! :o

Honestly, though, I'd like to run a one-shot with that some time--see how it goes...I wonder if it would hold up as a minimalist system for supers?

One does not replace the other!  They have different strengths.

C&C, from what I can tell, will give you more complexity and detail in your game, whereas M20 will just be fast and bare-bones.  Being descended from d20, it's pretty easy to jam your favorite tactical considerations back into it (Op Attacks, flanking, etc.) and in fact the M20 acropedia discusses how to do that.

The hurdle I'm at right now is realizing that, while M20 is based on d20, it is NOT d20; I keep comparing M20 characters to D&D 3.5 characters and I shouldn't be. However, the first steps admitting you have a problem, so there's that out of the way.
