This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I'm a bit surprised that Jorune did not make it into the Top Ten...

Good work (and thanks!) Joe, but where'd #10 go? :p

And shouldn't our Top Ten go to 11?

Thanks for crunching the data.  If it's not too much trouble I'd also be interested in a top 10 that considers D&D as a single game.

That would be interesting...as well as maybe a few of the top runners-up.

Joe, sorry you volunteered yet? :D

I'm quite surprised that CoC beat D&D 3.x. Is that the d20 version, or didn't you differentiate?

I would have thought you could combine Rules Cyclopedia D&D and Basic D&D.  I mean, they're essentially the same system.  I'm surprised at some of the entries - very "old school" stuff there.  I'm also surprised the GURPS 3rd makes the list but not 4th.  But then, I didn't participate in any of the threads.

This is a pretty Grognardy site though to be honest, part of why I tend to post here.

I'd be very surprised if that was the d20 version.

d) Could you please do as Jrients said?

e) What about the runner-ups?

Actually I'm not surprised Call of Cthulhu came out at #1, as it tends to end up in the top ten lists of people who love D&D, and also in the lists of the people who hate it as well.

One Horse Town

I heartily agree with the top three! :D

Yeah, my Top Ten was more a Top Nine.  Sorry 'bout that.  I was as consistent as possible on editions and stuff, there were a lot of votes for specific editions of games, and even more votes for games with multiple editions and no mention of edition.  I actually separated B/X D&D, RC D&D, AD&D1e, AD&D2e, and D&D 3.x.  Maybe that was stupid, but most of the way people voted was stupid.

I know it's unrealistic, but next time we do this, there should be some standards how to vote and for what.  Not that I'm complaining too much, but it was less than fun to reorganize the 10-1 lists and the lists with a ton of commentary.

So now, on to questions:
Quote from: jrientsIf it's not too much trouble I'd also be interested in a top 10 that considers D&D as a single game.
Well, I combined B/X and RC D&D into one.  If I changed all flavors of D&D into one category, I'd have to do the same thing all over or the data loses some meaning.

It had more to do with consistency than anything.  I tried to make everyone's vote get counted for what they wanted...which was sometimes pretty specific.
Quote from: JongKb) Where did #10 go? :P
I missed it, whoops.  It's Hero System.
Quote from: JongKc) Are we talking WFRP 1E or 2E?
Actually both, since I fucked that up pretty early.  The first 4 or fice people who mentinoned it didn't have an edition in mind, and since I've never played it nor read it, I didn't know to look for an edition number...until I saw it.  The two editions aren't radically different are they?
Quote from: JongKd) Could you please do as Jrients said?
Done
Quote from: JongKe) What about the runner-ups?
Al in good time (see my next post)
Quote from: droogIs that the d20 version (of CoC), or didn't you differentiate?
Nope, that's the BRP version.  I did differentiate, and CoC d20 is #79 on the list.
