This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

QuoteSince I don't personally think of gaming time as escapism time, I don't mind the thought of coming out of a session feeling like I need a glass of wine and an episode of I Love Lucy to calm my nerves. I have my yoga mat if I need it, and my job is writing articles about the beach to make people want to go on vacation -- I don't need gaming to be an escape from the dark realities of life.

Honestly. Bloody typical example of forgespeak. Anyone who doesn't like this is only looking for lightweight escapism, unlike worthy exploration of themes.

Not really. I just hate it when I see an obvious line of debate go unused.

It's like watching a horror movie - No! don't forget to charge your cellphone before on a long drive through the contry! You fool!

Post my comment there and we can forget all about it.

The idea here being to avoid getting throat fucking emotourism accepted as being something other than light escapism, like that crap trad corperate shit.

Quotemy job is writing articles about the beach to make people want to go on vacation

As for me, if that were my job, then fuck, I'd need an escape from the dark realities of life.

I once interned at a big ad agency and later at a mass tabloid, and man, it doesn't get much darker without getting illegal. Well, blatantly illegal anyway.

Almost as if you might want to escape from the drearyness and bordom by going home and pretending to be all twisted and perverse and exciting instead of a boring, straight laced, 'Nice' drone. Neh?

Not to mention the escape from the pointlessness of your existence by pretending that pretending you are interesting and exciting is Deep and Meaningful and Art.

Neh?

Neh?

Tokezo Hime said that - right?

Interesting.

I don't make sock puppets....you're on your own in poking that beast in a cage that should have been locked by now.
(The thread, not Tokezo Hime....she's quite pretty)

Tokezo Hime is a boy, Koltar. He just likes pics of h4wt chixxorz for his avatars.

Obvious lines of debate and telling points will always be missed in any discussion, Erik. I mean, even if you're a brilliant debater yourself, there are still going to be times when you suddenly stop a day or two later and say, "damn! I should have said -"

You also have to realise that after the first 100 posts to a thread the only people still talking and listening are the stubborn fucks and the clueless goons who say, "I haven't read the whole thread, but -" and reignite flames from a few days ago. Those two combined are not even one in a hundred of the forum's readers.

So whoever posted your witty rejoinders for you would be speaking to a very small audience. Easier just to let it go.

Unless you yourself are one of those stubborn or clueless guys, in which case you should just get a sock puppet and then get ready for an IP ban.

Uhm, Erik, that sounds like a trick question, and I'm way too scared to answer it.

No - Tokezo Hime is the wife of Tokezo Tekken.

She said hi to me one time at GenCon or remembers me from there.
Once or twice she has sent me Private messages ...she is also a blonde that wears glasses and does bellydancing.

I may not like the place - but I do like to know who the players are.

QuoteA veil of fantasy (whether in terms of physical distance, cultural distance, historical distance, or just straight-up fantasy), on the other hand, allows the narrative to be the story as it is.

Oh joy. So its a cop out that allows you to play a game while avoiding the issue.

Well done. You can play your stupid game and pretend to make the world a better place.

How impossibly worthy.

All I can say is that I go to work, and work hard. I'm standing on concrete all day, lifting heavy things here and moving them there, and getting dirty and sweaty. I've also been through a tough break-up with a woman with whom I really thought I'd spend the rest of my life, so I don't really need any artificial evocation of negative emotions. I play games to escape from the aches and pains of the day. If someone's life is so good that they need to be run through the wringer emotionally by a game, God bless 'em. Or rather, I guess He already has blessed 'em (if you believe in God; otherwise, the Fickle Finger of Fate has dealt him some pretty good turns of luck). My own personal feeling is that not everyone is so fortunate.

I haven't been banned over there yet.  In fact, I've been quite active in the thread in question, though I've been suspected or accused of lying, trolling, and being a part of RPGPundits Vast Anti-Swine Conspiracy.  The paranoia over there has gotten so thick you can almost cut it with a knife.

NEWS FLASH: PIRATE CLUSTERFUCK CONTINUES ON RPG.NET!

Remind me again, why the fuck are we still talking about this bullshit?  Isn't it fairly clear that there are people's whose idea of "fun" is not very palatable in reasonable company, and leave it at that?

Let's give this a rest, man.

Ask John, man. The thread keeps falling off the front page and he pops back in again every single time. He's gonna catch 'em in a logical fallacy someday, you watch!
