This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

This crap is depressing

So I've been a lurker here off and on for years, but recently I've found the only sanity coming from the TTRPG hobby is here and a few other individuals. I actually rediscovered this site when I went looking for a game today and I just got demotivated to even try because recently every game has been utterly distasteful due to the abhorrent ultra-woke players and DM's. I hate Critical Role for bringing these fragile little douchebags into the hobby.

I've never felt so unwelcome in my beloved hobby; ironically, as a black man only recently did I feel that way. I never felt unwelcome before. Now i do.

But yeah, that's all. Just needed to get that off my chest. Peace, homies.

I hear ya'... It's so deeply ironic, that a hobby that was always so welcoming back in the day, now feels like a horrible thing to go back to.

Welcome (back) to the madhouse. We're not all entirely sane here, either, but at least the insanity here generally runs in more ignoreable directions.

I've felt the same way for a while about being an SF&F fan, especially back when one could still go to conventions. It depresses me how rapidly "we welcome everyone as long as they can geek out about a shared dreamscape" became "we welcome everyone as long as they politically condemn those dreamscapes in the right way".

The world has gone crazy, and it has taken D&D along for the ride.  Keep throwing those dice.

Welcome back! It's always good to hear from lurkers and new people. Maybe we're not so crazy after all!

Welcome to the boards.

Frankly, there's probably more of us than there are of the other sides' true believers in gaming (and a whole bunch of people doing the current "cool thing" without even knowing anything but what they fed); they just have the billion dollar toy company and social media behind them that gives them an awfully big megaphone.

Use the Woke List to find green companies you can support if you wanna support something (mine will be up in the green section soon enough). There's a lot of OSR fans here, but not all of us are... so start topics about whatever interests you in gaming here because this is absolutely a free speech zone so long as the topic is gaming related.

I'm in a similar boat. I knew about this place from a while ago, but recently was drawn back by the list created by Occule. Even my own group, which is made up of friends, is all in on social justice. It's just the nature of where I live. It's the reason I curb politics at the table when I GM.

Welcome, SaveVsDeath. So what are your gaming tastes like? What games have you played most recently, and what are you looking forward to?

Personally, I'm still on hold as far as starting up a weekly group - since my weekly group broke up last year after we finished a long Call of Cthulhu campaign. I still have an irregular monthly-ish group, and one-offs like local conventions. I've been doing D&D 5e in a homebrew setting, which I'll probably start recruiting for some time next year.

Welcome as well! Indeed, politics at the table can be very distracting. The focus should be on the game. I'll happily game with almost anyone if we agree to live and let live at the table.

Well you shouldn't. Not that you don't have a valid reason to, just that there shouldn't be one.

It has always been strange that the people that are supposed to be so imaginative, are so narrow minded.

To the OP:

Which systems or editions have you played?  Have you DM'd / GM'd any games?

Finding something you like in the OSR will narrow the pool of current players, but you will find better players without as much drama.

How much longer is that going to last though before it is co-opted like pretty much everything else?

I suppose that is a very good, and very fair question.  There will be those who will say that it will never happen to the OSR.  I say, it will never happen to my book shelf.  Hard copies are the way to go.  They are your hedge against uncertainty.
