Thinking about getting The Invisible College

Hello. As the topic says, I'm still debating. Generally speaking, I like the lore, but I am unfamiliar with the mechanical side of things. Namely, I'm curious on the magic system employed here. While the story seems to have a Mage tilt, I'm wondering if the mechanics are in any way similarly flexible.

The magic system is very different from that of Mage. First off, the game is an OSR game. But it's magic isn't much like traditional D&D either, nothing to do with what wizard or cleric spells look like.
The system is based on characters taking combinations of three types of magic: theory, practice, and special techniques. Magic Checks are rolled to succeed at rituals, which are based on a D20+INT+Attainment vs a Difficulty Number.

im currently waiting for the hardcover in the mail, and very excited about it, i think pundit made something very special here, im aware that i also need special players and im lucky that i have those

, i really loves that his books have a authentic baseline and alot of weirdness on top of all that, it reminds me alot of the lamentations eco system,

anyway what you shouldnt do is buy the PDF and print at home, you will run out of ink before 40 pages, and when the college is 400 something pages, youre better off buying the hardcover

Hmm. Seems partially flexible, then. Not say, Ars Magica flexible but more so than D&D's more traditional casting system. That about correct?

Well, it depends what you mean by flexible. It's not "make up your own spells" type flexible. But you can do creative things with the different combinations of practices and theories. And of course a GM could invent some other type of magic theory or technique and add it to the game.
