This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Things you miss from the Old World of Darkness

I figure it's been a few years, we've had planty of time to compare and contrast. Our feet are planty soggy from feetwetting if you catch my drift.

So after all the dust settled, is there something (anything?) you miss from the Old World of Darkness that isn't in the new?

I for one miss Nature and Demeanor. The new WoD has Virtue and Vice sure, and they're all open ended and ful of choices and all that. However, Nature and Demeanor used to cement my charcters personality moreso than any other game mechanic ever. As a ST it was a good tool for coming up with decently 3-dimensional personalities on the fly.

I can honestly say I don't miss anything...except werewolf's terminology.

Goddammit!  I've learned all the arbitrary terminology of the first game!  I'll be damned if I learn all new shit!

absolutely.  i picked up a bunch of WtA books but never got to play.  then i looked at WtF and went :what:

i guess i'll miss getting the chance to play a WtA campaign (or chronicle--is that the term?).  my group's got plenty of other sticks in the fire, so i doubt i could persuade them to try it, and i guess most other groups converted to the new edition.

if anyone knows of WtA players in the central NJ area, feel free to PM me :deflated:

Don't get me wrong, I think WtF is head and shoulders better than the absolute train wreck that WtA is...it's just I don't want to learn all those new words.

mechanically, you mean?

There's something kinda campy yet geeky-mid90s-era fun about old-Mage.

Nope, the whole game.  In my opinion, it's a much better game, it makes sense with everything else (which was a goal of the new edition), doesn't get too wonky or new agey, and is just not a train wreck.

Granted, I only have the core book.

I miss the settings. While I think the mechanics and mechanical touchstones (the way the different games interface) are definitely better than oWoD, with maybe the except of Changeling, I'm just not overly gung ho about the nWoD settings.

oWoD actually reflected the way most players played it.  nWod reflects how the designers insisted it was supposed to be played.

As a player, that makes me not like it much.

I liked the Technocracy. The Exarchs don't quite do it for me as a replacement.

Nothing, really.

I only own the core plus Mage: the Awakened, but in general I think the current iteration is a vast improvement in almost every way.

And I love the Exarchs/Seers of the Throne. They're ambiguous enough for me to do whatever I like without chopping the game to pieces.
